Timeout when trying to send emails via smtp - 3BB

Postby Techland » August 19, 2011, 12:16 pm

Maybe this is useful for someone:

I sent two mails yesterday morning, like I did since 5 years, using Thunderbird and smtp.tttmaxnet.com as outgoing post mail server. I had been customer of Maxxnet and transferred to 3BB (maybe a year ago). After sending these two mails I could not send more mails. The info in the status bar of the TB window says 'connected to smtp...', but then nothing happens. Finally TB shows a timeout error.

This was still the case this morning, so first I changed to smtp.3bbmail.com (found this on the 3BB website), but same same.

Finally called their support in Bangkok. The first guy told me that they are right now changing from smtp.tttmaxnet.com to smtp.3bbmail.com. That sounds plausible, they will (of course) not notify anybody before, just let them all run into problems - TIT. But as I tried that already they promised to call back.

5 minutes later a tech calls me to try again - now it worked. Asking what has changed he told me that I had been classified as spammer (most probably by a wild-running software), and he has changed that state back to normal.

So if you have the same problem - first try the new server name, then give them a call.
