4 consecutive tourist visa's--trouble?

Postby marcusb » August 2, 2009, 9:46 pm

Seems they are always changing the rules and I just want to make sure. I have three consecutive 60 day tourist visas, each with a thirty day extension. I plan to go to Laos in a couple days and get my fourth visa. Will I have any problem getting a fourth? I would phone the consulate in laos and ask but I have tried phoning there before and have never reached anyone. If they refuse a 60 day visa can a guy go to the border and get a 15 day?? Hate to be stranded in Laos with all my belongings in Udon. Thanks very much.

Marcus I believe you are worrying over nothing.
I think you can go to Vientiane & pick up a double entry tourist visa tomorrow & no one will turn a hair.
I posted a link to this from thaivisa a few days ago, it was about Penang & not Vientiane
different places different rules..

Even if they did refuse (& they will not) you can enter Thailand & get the 15 day Visa Exception. You could do that as many times as you liked - or until your passport was full of Laos/Thai stamps. Then (depending on which country you are from) you might have an issue - depending how long a new passport takes.
If you are still concerned then PM lopburi3 - he probably knows more about visa rules & regulations than the combined services of the Thai Immigration services, but I do not think he will tell you any different than I have above.. :D

Actually, you just go to the Embassy and have more visa pages put in. I had to do that with mine last year.

Many passports can not have pages added - UK is a good exemple.

Getting another tourist visa should not be a problem in Vientiane. Only Penang (and perhaps KB) are saying three strikes and out.

Thanks for the help, off to Laos. Beer laos and French bread mmmmm.
My passport will have only two pages left after this trip. I emailed the Canadian Embassy and we also do no not have the option of adding pages. Apply in person in Bangkok, get a new passport mailed to Udon in 15 days .
Not bad. Faster than when in Canada.

UK Embassy will do it all by post marcus - takes 10 working days for a new one (plus a couple of days in the post)

Yes. But you seem to pay for it from all the grumbles I have seen about the UK price - although guess the latest increase may not apply to overseas. Also have seen posts that the adding of unused months to expiration date is no longer done.

Back to the question, why not go for a (one year) Non-immigrant O visa instead of tourist-visa trouble? You still have to do a "Visa-run" every 90 day but you not have to think about applying for new visa the next 15 month.

Uummmm now you have me started lopburi :(
No you won't find many UK citizens with much good to say about its Embassy - and you have indicated 2 reasons why!!
The cost of the 32 page passport in the UK is going up to 77.50 GBP on 3rd September
The cost currently shown on the British Embassy web site for this same document is 124.00 GBP. However you can only pay in baht in Thailand so HMG kindly convert this for you at a rate of 58 baht to the GBP to make a total of 7,192 (if you are not careful you can incur changes on top of that as well). The current exchange rate is nearer 56.2....
So you are paying well over the odds for it....
As for "adding unused months"......I had to renew my passport in December as I had run out of pages. My full passport did not actually expire until 11th. August 2015. So 17th. December 2008 I receive a new one...Expiry date 17th. September 2019. Not a good deal I think!!! :( :(

Some of us are not 50 yet! so our choice is getting married or a tourist visa...... I think I'll stick with my tourist visa!

Not true.

Most friendly consulates in Farangland will issue Non-imm 'B's and 'O's for little or no reason whatever age you are. I just got my 5th non-imm 'B' from the UK with virtually no supporting documentation.

Not so with a USA passport. Consulates in the USA will not issue a "O" visa unless you are over 50.

Not sure, but you may be confusing an "O" with an "OA" a friend of mine did the "O" thing for a couple of years and he is in his early 40's.
