I may try the Swiss Park Hotel next time I'm in Bangkok, it's in a good location and has a swimming pool. The room rate is only 1,280 per night.

Yes the rates for the Royal Benja is the online rate, between ฃ25 ฃ28.

Not far from Soi 7

I stayed at The Royal Benja earlier this year.

I was feeling real rough and just wanted somewhere to put my head down for a few days, so had to pay, "Rack Rates". Think I paid over ฃ40 a night.

I got the impression it was not guest friendly. They have security infront of the lifts.

I prefer The Bel Aire Princess in the same Soi.

As you all appear to be going progressively upmarket, I can recommend the Amari Boulevard. The walk in rate is 120 dollars per night, but you can spend all morning indulging the buffet breafast.

I once stayed there when it was packaged in with my air fare. :D

I don't know if they are guest friendly, but I managed to slip one past the night security, though that may just have been lucky timing. 8)

If you're prepared to push the boat out a little more you could always book a Selandia Suite room at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, a snip at only $1,600 per night. You do however get fresh fruit and flowers daily, a private butler service, bathrobe and slippers etc.

I wonder if they're guest friendly???

the most i have payed was 7000baht a night in the Landmark, excecutive club rooms upper floors. 2 hours drinks free everyday antthing you want, and the best buffet IMO in the history of buffets ie fillet steaks for brekkie !!!!
4 or 5 nights in these hotels is great, but when it coms time to settle-up,it brings a lump to your throat, bit of laundry, room service, mini bar etc...
still a free nation everyday, and a shoe shine.

also the westin grande just under 7000baht very similar.
but the westin has an extra star than the Landmark. !!
who needs a maid when you have got the wife...lol...

My experience is that none of the Amari hotels are guest friendly. I remember an incident at the Watergate when with my last Thai wife, who was much more volatile than my current one. A security man on the lifts stopped her and demanded to see her ID, with that she dragged him by his coat to reception and made them check the booking which was Mr&Mrs, poor guy was virtually on his knees, but needless to say he remembered her for the rest of our stay.

I actually found it quite amusing to see this so called security man being manhandled by a 5"2 Thai girl. I think any embarrasment must have been felt by him.
