Songkran UD Town

I won't vouch for the accuracy of the info in this link, but here's the gist (http://www.udon108.com/board/index.php? ... ic=82952.0)

UD Town will be sponsoring a Chang Water World Land extravaganza between 13-17 April, with a target attendance of not less than 300,000 people.
The article mentions that between 15,000 to 20,000 people visit UD Town each day and that 70% of the visitors are from Udon, with the other 30% Laotian and expats. It further says: "Udon has more foreign residents than any other province in the country, 40,000 ( not my numbers), and that most come from Britain, France, Denmark, the US, and Australia.
Lots of djs, bands, and to include Teddy Ska Bank, OK Mocha, Mario Maurer (actor), Harvey (actor), and วุ้นเส้น วิริฒิพา (photo below). The article doesn't mention it, but I'd guess everyone would vote for her to be in the wet t-shirt contest.
Sounds like UD Town will be the place to be if Songkran is your thing.

It may become the new focal point for Songkran, and take over from Nong Prajak.
When I used to live off Superchaniya Road, we used to go to watch proceedings, but always came back early as it always kicked off, with village idiots coming into town.
Lots in UD Town's favour, plenty of new clean council gritters, and food outlets.
I guess parking will be a nightmare, unless you get there early.

On the parking . Arrangements have been made to use the entire area within the adjoining Chinese Temple, entrance from near the market on the main road over the level Xing ..Park and just nip across the railway line .Look first before crossing .
Ageing is a privilige denied to many .

"am amazed as to where the figures for number of visitors to udtown come from"

I believe the figures come from the same advertising book that one of the new housing developments in town use to describe their atmosphere: "Sea Environment"

if last year was any indicator, they indeed do put on a big show. tong-yai rd is the frontage
street in front of UD town. it was closed last year for the festival. Or at least a section of it. :?
