Used-vehicle buyer: Beware

Postby parrot » April 6, 2011, 1:23 pm

The unfortunate driver of this truck near the Nongwahsaw market bought his truck second hand recently....still has a red plate. When I first saw the truck literally split in two, I thought it was because of an overloaded back end. But then I spoke with the driver and he told me he was carrying empty crates.....so, while the truck is overloaded by US standards, it's not by Thai standards. When I looked closer at the actual split in the frame, it looked like an amateur welding job (good back end welded to a good front end....a common way to fix smashed vehicles), a little spit and polish, and the vehicle will be back on the market for sale.
I doubt the buyer will have any recourse with the individual/company where he bought the truck.....but even if he does, it's a good reason for the buyer of a used vehicle in Thailand to BEWARE!

Used-vehicle buyer: Beware

A dead giveaway is when you ask for the previous insurance documents and blue book, the second hand dealer will make all sorts of excuses why the documents are not forthcoming.
The best one "They are in Bangkok".
Trying to hide the fact the car is a cut and shut.

Second hand car prices here hold their value.

Its better to buy new.

Red plates on a second hand truck, a dead give away one would think.

secret to a good cut and shut is to weld in extra box sections and do not make parrallel cuts - so i am told

had a cavalier one time that was not recorded and had a new boot section put on - but the guy that did it knew what he was doing 120 k later still in place and going strong
