Phones as predicted mass confusion

General Udon Thani topics only!

Postby Bandung_Dero » September 8, 2006, 10:02 am

Adding the 8 into my phone database was easy using my computer interface software - no worries all numbers I have used since work fine and my phone is behaving normally BUT:-

I note that when I receive calls the number displays without the 8 and when I tried mine to TWs the 8 was not displayed on her phone.

The display number feature is generated by the service provider as such I would have thought they would have it sorted by now. :?:

:) What is it they actually do?If a nokia shop, not a telecom shop, can do it,why can't someone make the changes themselves?

The best I can tell is they pulled the chip put it in some sort of chip reader and used a computer to change everything.

I think there are instructions in this thread as to how to do it yourself. But I would use Arjays original post, he is good at this things. I don't remember the name of the original paosting

Okay everyone I can see where the confusion is coming from now, let me try to explain in simple language.
First, yes you can change your own phone takes about 2 minutes but then you must manually change every one stored in your memory, your contacts. now if you have only got a few, no problem but a lot of people have over 100. Now this is where the change by the shop comes in. If you get your sim altered by them, they automatically update all your contact numbers at the same time, yes even hundreds in 5 minutes.Imagine how long this would take to do one by one.
Its free if done by the service provider, AIS, D'TAC etc, but watch out a few of the smaller phone shops in Chaeronsri centre are offering the service but charging 50bht.

This was the original thread, which was about the additional digit:

http://www.udonmap.com/udonthaniforum/v ... php?t=2027

However, do as Ray has done today, just go to any shop and they will put your phone SIM in a card reader and update it in about 1 minute or less. They did point out that they are updating your phone's SIM and not your phone!

I did my AIS phone SIM today at the Telewiz shop and my other half's Orange SIM at the same Telewiz shop. They told me you can do them at any of the phone shops: AIS, Orange or DTAC.

YES this is all very well. AIS users having certain phone models can dial *184# and your database will be updated there and then if you wish to proceed.

BUT. Have a look at your international numbers, some of them will be modified with the 8 also. Is this the case with sims modified by phone shops?

I am not rushing to make the change as I see no reason to make it quickly. We have until Nov.30th and ,as it is with most Thai changes,I have little faith until some time proves all the ''kinks'' are ironed out!
