I think something is in the wind with immigration

Postby Bump » September 12, 2006, 2:13 pm

As of October 1, 2006 the 3 million baht investment visa will no longer be available
Posted On Thai Visa:

Doesn't sound official to me yet, but immigration sure seems to eb very active this month.

It has been brought to the attention of Sunbelt Asia that as of October 1, 2006 the 3 million baht investment visa will no longer be available.

This includes bank investments, condominium investments, and bond investments.

Not only will it NOT be issued, but you CANNOT renew your current investment visa on this basis.

The official statement from Thai immigration is expected this week.

Massive interest and as if the condo market was not illiquid enough as it is.The three/four million Baht condo market will be dead.Amazing.Only yesterday Raimon Land was talking of its massive new condo in pattaya which it was going to sell off to long stay foreigners.

I wonder how many people actually use the condo investmest as a way to get
a visa.I lived in Bangkok a long time and I never met one person that did!Maybe Pattaya,I don't know as it is not my favorite place.

A bigger concern will be the reasons behind eliminating this type of Visa!

Paul's quote from previous thread on visa issues

What if, also like so many other things here - the government of the time decide to change the rules again for foreigners owning land or to close the existing loopholes like they are begining to do. Was there not a story recently that the government have halted all future AND PRESENT constructions of superstores. Why ? Coz they can

Still wanna sink 5 million into a condo which at the end of the day sits on someone elses land ?

and where will your fortune telling service be located?

A bigger concern will be the reasons behind eliminating this type of Visa!

maybe the big wigs smell profit after all the farangs dump there property at 10 %, buy, then resell to investors, considering most are owned in tourist areas or bkk.

I don't see why they would have to sell the properties. The visa shouldn't affect condo ownwership!

I wonder what you would hear if you could actually get inside the head of whoever came up with this idea relating to eliminating that visa???

correct, just because you no longer have a visa does not mean you have to sell the condo.

There are many other visas you could get or you could use the condo as a rental property.

No just reminded how fragile this life can be here, That is why I would like to see a real retiremetn visa. I don't really mind visting them every nonety days. Or filling out thier forms each year, but I have built a life ere and it would be nice to have things etched in stone. For my own peace of mind I will probably apply for the residency permit next year.

:) I 'm still not clear about the investment type visa.Is it a fact in action now?

The VOA thing ,they have been yakking about for years, now they seemingly are taking action.

I think we can take heart in the fact that they are slow to take action, therefore ,not immediate threat! :)
