PM on his way to London

Postby Mr. Bean » September 20, 2006, 6:38 am

He said he was coming back to Thailand. But, he is now cutting and running to London. His whole family is now in London. He knows that if he landed in Thailand a pair of handcuffs would be waiting for him.

But, he said he was an honest man. So, why is he cutting and running to London?

No doubt he'll be claiming political asylum, and immediately be eligible for all the social security benefits that us ex-pats are no longer entitled to! :x

According to CNN, Thaksin is good friends with Al Fayed so he may only be stopping off in London to help his pal by buying a few trinkets at his shop :-k

I don't think so Stan. Judging by all this morning's TV, Newspaper and Internet based news, it is the army seeking to oust Thaksin and get back on the road of restoring normality to Thailand.

All schools and banks closed today.

I wonder if I should try withdrawing some money from UK by ATM, with exchange rates falling. Or maybe they ATM's will be closed or emptied quickly?

> Headlines > PM's men detained, wife in Singapore

Quote From Nation Newspaper:
PM's men detained, wife in Singapore

Many politicians and those with links to caretaker prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra were spread far and wide last night as the news of the coup broke in Bangkok.

First lady Pojaman reportedly flew to Singapore on Monday and it is not known whether Panthongtae, the family's only son, followed his mother last night.

The whereabouts of the PM's daughters Paethongtae and Pinthongta were not known.

Thaksin is in New York at a hotel, where he has reportedly been watching the United Nations General Assembly and keeping abreast of developments here.

Many Cabinet members and other people deemed hostile by the "Council of Administrative Reform" have been detained. Deputy Prime Minister Chidchai Vanasatidya and Supreme Commander Ruengroj Mahasaranont and pro-Thaksin television host Dusit Siriwan are among them.

Head of the Mass Communications Organisation of Thailand Mingkwan Saengsuwan was apprehended by anti-Thaksin troops at Channel 9 compound after it aired a statement of Thaksin, from New York, announcing a state of emergency and relieving Armycommander Sonthi Boonyaratglin from his post.

Deputy Thai Rak Thai leader and caretaker Agriculture Minister Sudarat Keyuraphan reportedly flew to Paris with her family.

Defence Minister General Thamarak Isarangura na Ayutthaya reportedly escaped arrest narrowly and has fled upcountry.

PM's secretary-general Prommin Lertsuridej reportedly made an unplanned landing in the Phillippines during a trip abroad while Bank of Thailand governor MR Pridiyathorn Devekula was in Singapore.

Deputy Thai Rak Thai Party leader Somsak Thepsuthin said he was shocked by last night's coup and never thought it could really happen. A number of TRT MPs may meet today at the party headquarters.

ok if his is coming to Uk as an asylum seeker, he will be entitled to free accommodation, food vouchers to spend in supermarkets(or he could sell cheaply to someone else to raise a few pounds) vouchers for mobile phone usage,Vouchers for clothing ,money to start a buisness venture, he can use his Thai driving licence, but i think after a year or two he will have to take a uk driving test.,
Or not bother and just drive around with no insurance and have accidents and drive off. Welcome to great Britain ! .

But the other side of the coin, if Thaksin goes to Britain and actually works, he'll quickly learn what "tax" is!! Or will he "sign on" at the Job Centre?

He is also likely to experience some racial abuse, at risk of the occasional mugging, or a "bunch of fives" if he goes down the local pub, (not to mention the warm flat beer! ) and the weather can be cold wet and miserable. :?

Ah, life as an exile. I suspect he'll move on rather quickly to somewhere like the Bahamas, presumably where his cash has been relocated!! 8)
