Have you seen in Bangkok News that the christian church in NWS has been demolished by vandals claiming they are from the nearby Budist temple?

The work has now started. They are widening the road on both sides so a lot of tree cutting going on and the gap is being filled with tons of loose stones so drive carefully unless you want a broken windscreen .

Looks like Udon's rapid developement is spreading out here to the villages. Just down the road from us , near the post office, the local farmer has donated some land to tessabahn to create a new road from the main one across to one running parallel to it. This in effect cuts his field in half but gives him the advantage of selling the plots each side for housing developement.I understand this will give him 16 plots of one rai each, which he is selling at 1 mill a time . Already two have been snapped up. :-" Last year this land was growing rice, this year to beat rising labour costs he grew sugar cane, but I guess the temptation to cash in was too much to resist.

Stopped in the Nongwahsaw market today to stock up......by far, the center of attention was not the villagers selling succulent mangoes, or the ones plying their assortment of herbs, spices, and femented fish......by far, the crowd was hanging around the bullfrog vender........who was unloaded crates of bellowing frogs (อึ่ง), freshly caught after a night of rain. Price? 150-170 Baht per kilo depending on how much you buy. The vendor was selling them almost as fast as she could unload them from her truck.

The only other news I could drum up in Nongwahsaw today was that the village does not yet have 3G. Downtown Udon? They have it. But not much outside the city, as of yet, anyway.

Any update from the new restaurant ?
To call it a restaurant seems a bit excessive. It's more of a coffee shop that has some fast food that they can run in the microwave or fry up some Thai fast food. I can not say I was disappointed by what we ate from the menu but it's not a place I will return to. The food they offer can I cook in 5 minutes with better results. Just buy some from the freezer in the Macro or Big C, throw it in the pan / microwave and presto ..... so the table is served. :|
On a side note, can anyone tell me what happened to the local loan shark in nong Wau Sor,have someone needing an update,ta vely much 8)

Been a long time since I updated this topic so here goes. For lovers of a nice cup- of coffee in a relaxing enviroment.
Alongside the Non Wau So resort they have built a very nice coffee shop in a garden enviroment called
Cafe de Wausor. It has indoor and outside seating surrounded by a large pond complete with huge carp. The coffee is good and reasonably priced , from 45bht.It has free wifi and seats about a 100.Alongside there is a traditional Thai wood pavillion that they are constructing as a restaurant specialising in both Thai and European food. This is due to open early next year. In the meantime the coffee shop is open from 7am-6pm .

And for you big bike lovers.

The location is about 20kms from Udon out on the airport road just pass the NWS traffic lights .

Well Jack I wasn't wearing a striped shirt and my hairdresser hadn't used my platinum shampoo this week and you know how fussy I am about my appearance  Incidentally I have nothing to do with this place other than as a customer, just simply thought the many members living this way may appreciate knowing we can get a decent cup of coffee in a pleasant setting at long last . \:D/

And the idea that it opens at 7 Am makes it a good place for a wake up cup of coffee....

We are also getting another new coffee shop called Coffee Lovers....It is north of the traffic light, between the public school and the big private school(closer to the private school)..Will open on Dec 5th...Not sure about the hours...It looks like a nice place..

Nong Wauso is certainly getting a lot of upscale places....Can McDonalds, Pizza Hut, Starbucks, Dairy queen and BK be far behind?...

Val...A quick question...What ever happened to Nong Wauso becoming the natural gas hub of Thailand...For months, we had a real oil/gas boom going on here and then, overnight, it all went away...

It's actually in full operation supplying, I guess, some kind of national grid, but As I said at the time , despite the local euphoria, there isn't much benefit to the economy here . Now the large teams of exploration have moved on ,we are left with a manager and a handful of workers for maintenance purposes, as the whole thing operates almost automatically .Nothing to see on site , just a few buildings and some pipe work.

I'm not sure of the technical details , they certainly made a lot of bore holes but there appears to be only one outlet pipe, but they could well be connected below ground .

Val...

Being from Oklahoma and being involved in the oil and gas drilling industry all my life, i would be interested in taking a look at what they have done...Can you give me directions on how to get to the well?

Time for the annual Mango fair. Kicks off tomorrow proper for the next three days . Usual stuff , mangos of all sizes galore. Fun fair , trade stalls and plant sales . With various Thai style entertainment in the evening and all through the ruddy night.Thankfully it's only three days as it's right alongside my bedroom , or sounds as though it is . :-" I must admit it doesn't seem so big this year, maybe a sign of rising costs and lower spending but enough to make a visit to this traditional festival worth doing .For those not familiar with the area. Exit Udon on the Nong Bua Lamphu road, past the airport turnoff, past the new Tesco and BigC for roughly 20 k until come to the main traffic lights at Nong Wau So, turn left , about 10k further on you will come to Nong Wai and the Amphoe of Nong Wau So.It's on the main rd so you won't miss it .I'm there most of the time, kicking around the Red Cross, charity tent .Maybe see you then .
