:lol:YES,I find that I am watching the news and on the computer more.Went to the gym this morning for the first time this week!My weight is up to 120Kg and my food bill has increased from snacking.I am a few days closer to the end of my life and the dog is getting upset that I am not giving her enough attention.I am confused about VOAs and 30 day stays, are they the same thing? And it is taking me to long to learn how to copy and paste with proper Quotations. And none of my long trousers fit at the waist. The underwear I bought at the Export Store is falling apart and the expensive xxlarge I bought from Robinsons is to small, causing me to constantly pull at my crotch as the Thais with their fingers picking their noses, look at me weird.

Well it really does seem to be business a usual I was out running errands today they were set up by the University. Got the most excitement I had all week three little darlings on a bike did a uturn ten feet ahead of me and almost broadsided them. The boys in Brown stopped me on the way back I alway enjoy there visit since I have everythign I'm supposed to have.

Did see a soldier dressed in Combat gaer on his personal motorcycle, with the wife on bak. But the truth is I have seen the same guy dressed exactly the same way, several times over the past year.

The solider down the street seems to be hanging out at home enjoying life again nothing unusual. So maybe really the only change is I'm noticing things more, another self imposed

In this case, did "everything one is supposed to have" include a passport?

I don't remember reading a discsussion about this with respect to Udon Thani, though it seems that many get by ok in Bangkok with just a driving license for ID.

Also, under Marshall Law, would the police be as understanding as they have been in the past?

You know that is the one thing I have never been aked for in this country in four years, but it cerainly isn't a bad idea to carry a copy. I used to, but since I have never been asked I just haven't got a recent copy made. Thanks for the reminder.

I have never been asked by the police for my passport, nor do I know anybody that has been asked.I believe the law states that you are supposed to have your passport on you at all times, not a copy!Although I have heard talk about ,you should have a copy of your passport or a Thai DL that has your passport # on it,if you were in a serious situation, they might just enforce the letter of the law.
I think I read something ,somewhere, about some people being detained at the Immigration jail in Bangkok until someone was able to produce their passport. It was a long time ago!
There is not one thing that I have heard ,so far, about this coup situation that makes me think we should have the slightest concern .If there is any close scrutiny of individuals, they will probably be Thai,as they are looking for individuals close to Thaksin, not falangs!

I've transferred this quote of Ray's from a new thread and pasted it into this existing thread, as the topic/title is almost the same.

Does anyone notice anything all that different than before -v- Has anyone noticed any difference in their lives.

International right group demand end to martial law

The International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH) and its member organisation in Thailand, the Union for Civil Liberties (UCL), Friday called on the Council of National Security to lift the martial law immediately.

The FIDH said in its press statement that the end of the martial law would demonstrate the CNS' commitment to the civil liberties of the people of Thailand.

The statement said it was alarming that Prime Minister Surayud was reported as having said that there are no immediate plans to lift martial law, and that it is "not an urgent issue".

"These latest statements give further cause for concern over the level of control retained by the military and its consequences for the respect of fundamental rights," the statement quotes Sidiki Kaba, President of FIDH, as saying.

"If the military are at all serious about respecting the rights of the people of Thailand and restoring democracy, they will put an immediate end to martial law and remove all restrictions on civil liberties".
