Where to stay in Udon Thani?

Post by malamala » October 24, 2013, 6:51 am

We are arriving to Udon Thani from Laos in the afternoon and have an early (7:35am) flight in the next morning.
I am looking for a suggestion where to stay, if we would like to be in walking distance to good street food (I assume there maybe a night market selling meals?)
and
easy way to catch a taxi to the airport in the morning.
We do not need fancy hotel, the budget is around TB800 or less, if they provide a breakfast, it would be nice.

thank you for the advice

Theres quite a few options including.....
Irish Clock on Soi Sampan......750 baht per night, including breakfast.5 minutes walk to Central Shopping Mall or Nightmarket.

Charoen Hotel.....900 baht per night, including breakfast.Older hotel with pool and nice outside Thai restaurant overlooking a small lake and has the benefit of free transfer to the airport in the morning.10 minutes walk to Central Shopping Mall and 15 minutes walk to the Nightmarket......saamlaws will cost you about 40 baht if you dont fancy the walk.

Thank you for the quick reply.
If we stay at the Irish bar, how difficult is it to catch a taxi to the airport around 5 am?

You would have no problem.
The Irish Clock is located on the main Udon tourist street and next door to a large new hotel with others close by.
Though I have never been there at that time I am sure there will be taxis available and of course the owners of Irish Clock would assist you.

You are best pre-booking a taxi for an early start...
Udon Thani Taxi Meter phone numbers : 080-0101-354,080-0101-355,080-0101-356.

BTW....I presume you are getting the Nok Air flight at 7.35am ?? Starting off for the airport around 5am is very early.
I flew the same two weeks ago....left home 6.15am and was at the airport for 6.30am......quick check in and time for a coffee and bite to eat before the flight.
Its only just over 15 minutes from the Irish Clock to the airport,so I would say a 6am start would be fine for you.
Udon airport is pretty relaxed.....cant compare to Suvarnabhumi or Heathrow !

Sorry, didnt realise the Clock had stopped including breakfast in the price.
As mentioned,Top Mansion and home @ Udon are two other altenatives in the same soi.
Just at the side of the bus station is the Silver Reef hotel which, again,is 5 minutes walk to Central Mall and the Nightmarket.....never stayed there, though.
Also, right opposite the bus station is the Sritrakarn hotel.....double room with aircon 400 baht....5 mins to Central,a couple of minutes extra to the Nightmarket.

silver reef is 100 meters from the bus station, and still central to everything
the map on udonmap has all the hotels listed, also in their directory too.
