Things That I Really Want But Can't Get Myself to Buy

Post by parrot » February 26, 2014, 7:40 pm

I'd love to drive a decked out Lexus......could if I was in the US, but here with 40%++ tax on top of the price, I can't get myself to buy one.
Likewise, I saw this 15hp riding lawnmower at Toolpro today.......an 18hp version, same maker, in the US, goes for about $1600. The version at Toolpro is about 3 times dearer.
I really want it........but there are some things in life I just can't get myself to pay for. Business/first class tickets, way-over-priced wine (Thailand prices) and way-out-of-whack tax rates on vehicles.....and fancy lawnmowers.
Maybe in another life!

MANY years ago I always thought I wanted to retire in a house with a yard big enough to require a riding lawn mower that would take more than one tank of gas to mow. I used to drive past large beautifully maintained and landscaped properties and pine away. Then I got older and realized when grass needs mowing it's hot outside. When it's hot outside, you sweat. Gas, and mowers cost money. Mowers need maintenance. Grass needs fertilizer, de weeding, de bugging, etc etc etc. Now, a few potted plants on the patio works just fine.

What I'd REALLY like to have is an electric ice cream machine!
Every day I wake up is a good day.

There is something zen-like about a well maintained yard......not that I do much if any of the work in it.....but our daughter might disown us if she ever knew how much of her inheritance is sunk into it. I also realize that 2 years after the last blade of grass is cut, the jungle will take over the place. Sigh......life's not always fair.
I'm sure an enterprising young Thai could figure out a way to hook up a DQ machine underneath the hood.

That is one very very nice yard!

& yes, I would love to upgrade to simply a motorized lawnmower but the prices for anything with a decent motor are baa pang.

My eco-hipster brother-in-law showed up from Bangkok for a visit & thought it clever to dismantle my precious 3000THB push-mower to sharpen the blades, yet put it back together in non-working order. And then rode off into the sunset.

-I've been warned by my wife to stay away from buying the more common Thai Brush Cutter pictured below, (as too dangerous in non-Thai hands?):

you could always pretend to be Happy Gilmour..
just tie the mower onto the back of the car, and drive around the lawn

Yes, that brush cutter - used by family, but not by me - wife says 'not safe' for me to use it.... I am also not allowed to work on the garden immediately by the road side.... If falang has to work, must be sticky, bad for family face.

I saw this motorcycle on UdonMap classifieds last year, and I would love to have it, but I am scared to death to ride a motorbike in this country. My better judgement tells me to leave it on my wish list. It reminds me of my red Cadi that I left behind back in the States. I guess I could just buy it and leave it in the driveway to look at every day.

Colossians 2:8-10...See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, which are based on human tradition and the spiritual forces of the world rather than on Christ. For in HIM dwells all the fullness of the GODHEAD bodily; and you are complete in HIM, who is the head of all principality and power.

fdmike sent me a link to a Toro lawn equipment dealer in Bangkok....I inquired about two high quality mowers.......the quote is attached below. Plenty of change left over from one sit down mower.

It's interesting to see all the above revolve round money. For me the only things I want that money can't buy, is my health and happiness in the future .Maybe it's a different perspective that comes with age . :-"

I think a minimal amount of money could buy the pie at CCC. As for the first I think that is something we all surrender upon getting married.

Unless of course you marry a lady who is both deaf and dumb and judging by some posters that is true.
