Post by mr passout » August 3, 2014, 5:45 am

For a while now,my old but trusty aircon remote, drains batteries in around 3days.
Does anybody have ideas on what causes this.
Tried universal remote but the old Mitsubishi won't regonize this.
thanks in advance.

Are you using Alkaline batteries or the el cheapos? Makes a big difference for me!
Colossians 2:8-10...See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, which are based on human tradition and the spiritual forces of the world rather than on Christ. For in HIM dwells all the fullness of the GODHEAD bodily; and you are complete in HIM, who is the head of all principality and power.

Could it be that the remote is shorting out in some way and thus using/draining the batteries?

You might want to see if an old pair of batteries leaked fluid into the battery compartment. If so, that might be causing a new pair to short our quickly. I had that problem a few years ago.....took about 20 q-tips and cotton swaps to clean out the toxic muck. There was so much, I'm surprised the remote wasn't ruined.

You could try Amorn Electronics. I've had 3 remotes repaired there with good results.

Thanks for the replies, will check Amorn out and see what they can do.
The remote as always been frequently used, tried many types of batteries from energizers to duracell and the cheapies, energizers lasted about 3 days.

My remote was acting strangely. Maybe it wasn't the remote? My wife knows everything and she may have been "adjusting" it. In either case I got it adjusted properly and took the batteries out of it. I turn it on and off with the circuit breaker. Problem solved.

My remote acted strangely about four years ago. My daughter microwaved it and it didn't just melt - it was in flames and the 'black interior microwave had to be replaced along with the remote.

I think the microwave trick would fix any remote. Here's a tip. I recently microwaved a bag with a few donuts in it. I didn't remove the little wire tie and it DID catch fire. That was only a 20 second shot. Fortunately I smelled it burning and opened the microwave door.
