Well, are there any "rules of engagement"?
If I'm in possession of a legally owned and registered firearm here and someone forces entry into my home, can I defend myself and property and "take the shot'?

"legally owned and registered by whom?" I was under the impression that Farang owning any firearm over here was a no-no..

As it was explained to my wife and I, by the Udon police department, where you go to start the background check in order to purchase a weapon, make sure that whoever the weapon is registered to puts the rounds down range. This is the first thing they, police, will check if weapon is used for whatever purpose. ONLY the person to whom the weapon is registered can legally discharge. In other words, shoot to kill if you deem the situation warrants. Their words, not mine. Bottom line is who knows? Let us know what happens......
Hit 'em hard, hit 'em fast, hit 'em with the one they don't expect, and just keep hitting.

I figured someone would ask something lame like this, even if I made the question simple. =D>

Thanks for the input.
I'm not expecting anything to happen soon but it may be an interesting topic if it does.

So TW registers,if has the contacts :-" ,you shoot the burglar, fire a few rounds into the ceiling afterwards to pretend she gave warning, she tells the police she did it and the burglar is in no position to claim otherwise, job sorted.

make sure u have rather long gloves on so no residue is found on ur hands or clothing.
clean weapon of prints first then...
Wife must fire the ceiling shots to ensure she does get residue on her hands.
But Thais cant keep a secret so your gone again....

Maybe a couple of rounds into the wall would be better.wazza wrote:Wife must fire the ceiling shots to ensure she does get residue on her hands.....
Me thinks it's easier to patch and paint the render than gypsum and roof tiles.

I cant elaborate, but are personally familiar with the propersition put forward..Let me just say that in such situations there are no rules of engagement, thats for soldiers at war, not blokes defending themselves or family..I can only say that you have but mere seconds to decide what your are going to do, and if your looking down the barrel of a gun, no matter how small that gun is, it looks like a friggin shotgun to be sure...killing is easy, its afterwards thats the hard part...if you plug some intruder and want to get away with it, then you need to put a round in the ceiling, and pretty smartly after the first shot..it is recognised as the standard way to give a warning shot, not one in the wall...

Juet a thought hrre ok and im no hush lawyer ok.
As a prosector i could charge the OP 2 shots or not as the intent of this post is to find out what to do if he shot someone. . therefore i could argue the case that no suprise incident ever occurred as the OP has intent to kill.

I could argue that the OP is merely enquiring as to the law of protection in Thailand, and whether he is within his right to shoot someone in the advent of a home invasion....simple as that..

Your Worship
The defendant clearly asked about what cover ups were available or needed, and the evidence of plaster, 14 used gloves, non matching wall paper ..
Seriously I would not want to be an Alien on the trigger end of any home invasion or robbery etc. The country is undergoing changes and laws are seeing to be enforced in some areas after years of possible neglect.
Having a gun on the premise isn't going to stop the original crime from being committed , unless you have a Sign up to indicate
Cost of a registered pistol is say 70-100,000 B ( depending what you order ) and another topic on here recently said you can get a house fitted out with good security gates and windows for 50,000 approx. ...
You wont have the NRA getting involved in depending your right to bear arms in Thailand. You probably wont get an expat lawyer for anything less that 8-10,000 per hour, to assist the local guy and Judges wont wish to establish a precedent with an Alien, Firearm in this political environment.

which is probably not allowed under the licence conditions anyway, as it might attract attention for its unlawful removal. ( Chicken and the egg now )" Registered Gun on Premise "

I'm not a gun man,
so
CCTV cam to record the perp entering the premises. =D>
Motion sensor that trips and opens a gate for a very large angry dog or dogs to confront them.
As Gomer Pile would say surpriiiise surpriiiiise
If this works sit back next day with a beer and have a laugh watching the video.

Re: ROE in Thailand
Could have sworn I know a couple of foreigners who own hotels here that went through the steps to be registered firearm owners here. There were standard police background checks, must be here legally on non imm visa and in a position which handled "significant business interests" and their guns had to be purchased in bkk at a licensed shop.
There was a very long thread about this on another Thai forum but it's been two or three years since I read it.
