No more Swiss visas for Thai strippers

Post by wiking » October 24, 2014, 9:59 am

what do we have strippers in Thailand, they always tell, good girl not do - hi hi

Switzerland will stop issuing special work permits for foreign strippers, who hail from countries such as Thailand, Russia and the Dominican Republic.

The government said that the eight-month permits would no longer be granted after the end of 2015, on the grounds that they had stoked sexual exploitation in the Alpine country.

"Women are forced to drink alcohol, to prostitute themselves, and it is very difficult to prove it," Justice Minister Simonetta Sommaruga told reporters Wednesday.

Created in 1995, the permits were meant to protect foreign women who wanted to work as nightclub exotic dancers and strippers from unscrupulous players in the sex business. But after in-depth studies, the government decided that so-called "L permit" status for the women was not having its desired effect.

"Based on a range of police investigations, in 2010 the Federal Migration Office reached the conclusion that the status was no longer playing its protective role and was enabling exploitation and human trafficking," the government said in a statement on Wednesday.

As a result, the government began moves in 2012 to void the rules.

From January 1, 2016, only women from the European Union will be allowed to come to Switzerland to work in nightclubs.

Switzerland is not part of the EU, but is ringed by its member states and has strong economic ties with the 28-nation bloc.

Immigration is closely regulated in Switzerland, with various categories of residence permits known by letters of the alphabet. "C permits" are allocated to non-Swiss permanent residents, while the next step down is a "B permit," renewable every year.

The "L permits" granted to nightclub dancers and strippers enabled them to work short-term and send money home to their families.

Switzerland issued 844 such permits in 2013, far below the 5,686 given out in 2005, Mr Sommaruga noted. And half of Switzerland's 26 cantons - the equivalent of provinces - no longer issue them at all.

Critics of the system have complained that the women are often forced to pay bribes to middleman in order to get their "L permit."

But campaigners have warned that getting rid of the permits could simply drive strippers into working illegally, raising the risk of exploitation.

"The end of these permits will not solve all the problems, far from it," said Mr Sommaruga.

The government has pledged to help women exploited by the trade, with special procedures to enable them to return home or apply for a Swiss residence permit.

No more Swiss visas for Thai strippers

It's difficult to comment on this without knowing more. I guess Swizz strip clubs are going to be less interesting places for those partial to enjoying the artistic endeavours of these young women. Swizz strip clubs are probably way too pricey like most things in Switzerland. This is probably a good thread for one of KP's high horse posts. We're probably safe from dazzz in here. :D

You shouldn't let people intimidate you, old chap. Rite wot yer like.

Interestingly, Geneva has more than its fair share of Thai nationals. Indeed, there are a couple of reputable Thai karaoke establishments downtown with oodles of Thai girls to gawp at.

One visa closes another opens. There are numerous worker visas available for Switzerland with less strict rules than the Thai stripper visa. Clearly the Swiss want their tax for this lucrative business. Seems like good out of the box thinking if you ask me.

Well, I'll personally say the Thai strippers are very welcome out here in NZ if Switzerland doesn't want them. They'd earn heaps more in Switzerland.

Not many Earnest. Only about 10,000. I wish there were more. Personally I'd like at least another million. Because of our geography we can control who comes here and so there are masses of Chinese, Korean, Indians and Japanese because they're wealthier than the Thais. Fair few South Africans and Brits too. More Thai women than men are here. That's not surprising. The Thai population must be growing as there are more Thai temples than there used to be.

If I get on a bus to the suburb where I live from the city it's usually 75% Asian passengers. Lots of international students. The Asians tend to congregate in Auckland - warmer weather, more jobs and easier to mix with people from their home.

I'll return downunder the favour and provide a link to Asian sex workers being cheaper than Aussie sex workers in the same knock shop in Sydney:

http://www.theage.com.au/nsw/fears-of-e ... 1b0td.html

Probably the same here but maybe not on the same premises. Foreign sex workers come in on student visas or students support themselves by selling themselves. Koreans seem keen to do this. Those Aussie prices are high compared to what's advertised here. Sex work is legal here (but not for those on student visas). So if you want a laugh you can read ads in the newspaper about some granny advertising herself for $50. Probably not so funny if we knew why she was so desperate.

Genuinely surprising. But then we have quite alot of Asians in our town. Many former Gurkhas have settled here, which I rather like.

On another related subject..

Are brothels legal in Australia?

What about New Zealand?

Pros_titution is a state issue in Oz, so legality varies from state to state/territory.

Yes, brothels are legal in NZ. A former brothel manager I once met socially, a Malaysian chap, said the brothels struggle to compete with the freelance hookers working out of inner city apartments. So there aren't that many brothels. There are some rules about registration etc that probably aren't enforced much - the same as the Aussie link.

NZ is very liberal on the sex trade other than trying to stop foreigners coming here and funding their visit through selling sex. If it wasn't for our geography and problem with obesity we'd probably market ourselves as a cheap sex destination. What's the sex capital of Europe? Germany and particularly Berlin? I've always had the impression the poms had a big sex industry.

I think I read somewhere that in the recent election here Earnest that 25% of the registered voters in my electorate (and neighbouring electorates) were Asian. They'd be mainly Chinese and Korean. The % of Asians would be higher as many wouldn't yet have residency entitling them to stay indefinitely and to vote. I think a lot of our immigrants are good looking people - slim, well dressed and well behaved apart from the Chinese spitters. So UKIP wouldn't be very popular here.

I still want more Thais. They're fun. I like to go watch them gamble at the casino which is near my bus stop in the city. Roulette seems to be their game. 80% of the Thai gamblers seem to be female. Most have been eating a NZ diet too long. That ain't good if you're short. Many obviously have a gambling problem. A Thai woman once told me that some of them are available to interested gentlemen as they are too keen on gambling. I try to work out the relationships amongst them. One Thai bloke hangs around the tables and at first I thought he was someone's husband. I later decided he was a discreet Thai money lender. All the normal Thai nonsense here. :D
