I haven't been there, but just got back from Koh Phanghan, which I found lovely. I had thought the Full Moon Party would have ruined it, but on the other side of the island where I stayed (Pimmada's Hut) you'd never know. Boating, good food, beautiful beach, nice conversation, cheap accommodation- everything I was hoping to find!

In Dec 2013 we stayed at the Sivalai Resort on Ko Mook in Trang province. We found the same sort of things there.....good food, relaxation, great beaches, and one road that intersected the island....no vehicles to speak of. If you want cheap, there's cheap on the island. If you want a bit of luxury, you can get that there as well. We enjoyed our stay there....and a tip of the hat to mak for recommending the place.
