WAT PHU TOK

Postby MuayThaiguy » March 27, 2007, 9:55 pm

1 How long does it take to drive there from Nakhon Phanom?
2 Is it worthwhile?

Or would chilling in NP be better? =D>

We reckon about an 1.5 hours, we used to live in Bung Kan and it took us 1 hour.
We reckon it is well worth the visit, it has seven levels and each is a scene out of Indiana Jones movie !! even the cobras on the top of the mountain.

You must drive fast. On the map NP to Bung looks about 120km. You reckon we can cover that in 30 mins! HA 240km per hour.

We should allow 2.5 hours then.

Phu Tok

Postby Mudshark » March 28, 2007, 12:08 pm

Hi MuayThaiGuy,

I went to Phu Tok in October...pictures attached.

Well worth it. Was a real highlight of my trip :-)

Went right to the top...but no cobra's in sight. Another time I would skip the last push to the top as the trail peeters out (probably because cobra's live up there and Thai's know better than to thrash around on the peak!!).

Took about 2 hours to drive there form Sawangdandin. Long day but we had the entire family, neighbours etc along so it was a really fun extended Thai family time.

I showed the pics to my wife.
The first thing she asked me was if I still pay for my life insurance :? :? :? :? :?

As I saw there are several threads on this topic Wat Phu Tok, and this may be one ofth oldest, from 2007. Although, may I add some pictures? Because I love this wat! even I am not at all a wathopper. First I would like to show a map to find it, especcially because it is near (50 km) the bung kong long, that also is worth to be seen.

Image

I don't want to repeat pictures that other people postet in here before, but the wat is really imposing.

Image

The way to the wat begins quite harmlessly

Image

It's true that you need a good life- and accident- insurance.
But: we are buddhist, aren't we?

Image

Some of the path's are really romantic.

Image

and some are frightening

Image

The wat itself is nice too, simpel and a bit fresh,

Image

and there is even a library.

Some great pictures there michaleo.
Thanks for that - gives a good idea of what the ascent is actually like.
