soi dog's

Postby mighty-chang » August 16, 2008, 3:40 pm

Where i live 80 klm from udon we have a ever growing problem with grumpy soi dogs ,it has become impossible to walk anywhere with out a soi dog running out and barking like a loon and sometimes trying to bite . The problem has got out of hand to a such a extent i never go out with out my trusted aggravation weapon of choice a large branch from a tree.
A few year's ago i used to see trucks collecting the stray soi dogs off the streets and anyone who preasented them with a dog was rewarded a bucked yes thats rite a "bucket" the dogs would then be taken to not so dog friendly place called Sakon Nakon where the collected dogs have now become a local delacsy for the village people.
It would be nice if this problem could be resolved but im sure i'll have to carry my tree branch for a while yet.
ALRITE that has got my moan out of the way now where did i put my beer!

I think it is the same everywhere Chang. :( I don't mind one dog as it is only flexing its muscles & defending what it sees as its area and can be quickly discouraged :D , but when you get 3 or 4 of them together that is no joke....

You might find the fact your bearing a large lump of wood might be the trigger of the aggression. I run most mornings and encounter many packs of dogs but apart from the yapping and mock attacks I don't have a serious problem. Just run faster , you'll find they soon give up.

truebrit i don,t agree a good smack over the head with lump of wood will make them thinking twice about their initial aggressive action and make them thinking about doing it again dogs equation = OUCH!! "every time i bark at people who walk past i tend to get a blow to the head better if i stop me think"

Thailand has a serious problem with dogs.
Is it not a joke to see vendors selling dogs?
Or better yet seeing Thais buying them

I have to agree with truebrit on this one, carrying a lump of wood causes them to start growling out of defense as much as aggression as they are preempting a clobbering.

most dogs ive come across in thailand are in my opinion of a nervous disposition and bark as a defence mechanism. i have yet to see one bite if you either front them or crouch down to befriend them. they are pretty much letting you know your on thier turf. thats what dogs do, they are very territorial creatures . beating them is not only cruel, its going to incite an attack if they have aggresive tendancies and make the situation worse. they can pick up on your fear very easily. lets face it i would bite you as well if you came at me with a weapon !!!!!!!! .

All Thai dog's have a well embedded fear of a cocked backed arm throwing a rock.. Any time a dog comes up on you, all your have to do is act like you're slinging a rock at them and they will quickly retreat. If you use a real rock and are accurate and can bop them on the head, the next time you walk by they will bark but quickly retreat when you pull your arm back...
