Tourist visa extension - latest requirements Nongkhai?

Postby Barry White » June 14, 2009, 6:35 pm

Have a valid 60 day tourist visa, that I wish to extend 30 days.
Now I live Muang Khonkaen, so this first time going to Nongkhai. Have read Nongkhai like to ask more documents than other imm offices. What are their latest requirements about documentation ?
Do house owner I rent from ,have to go with me to immigration?? Difficult as he's a Teacher.
Any link to document houseowner have to send to Immigration when I rent his house?

get confused when I see someone asked for copy all pages bankbook and letter from Bank, medical, proof of residence ...
Appreciate advice.

As Far as I can remember, If your on a Tourist Visa, you DO NOT have to supply proof of income, neither do you have to supply proof of where your living, all you have to present, is yourself, and a completed TM47 form,(application for extension of Visa), the items you mentioned above, are for a Non Im 'O' Visa!!!

Just a thought, but bringing the house owner might work against you. Your on a tourist visa and they would consider you a tourist not a resident. Oh well WTF do I know, here's a couple of post worth reading.

Good luck ;)

Actually the form is TM7 and requires 4x6cm photo and costs 1,900 baht for processing. They might ask to see an outbound ticket but that is not normally asked at most locations.

lopburi, an out bound air ticket was a requirement at Nong Khai for certain.
Then they would only issue you with an extension to the date of the air ticket to a maximum of 30 days.
That was it the last time I went, but that was well over a year ago. Since then they have had a major change of staff & I gather attitude. As far as I am aware no one on the forum has actually tried to get an extension for a long, long time - simply because it was not worth it!!
From memory you do need to copy a couple of pages of your passport as well...
If no-one does actually try & go for an extension..... I will actually do so at the end of July - 22nd. to be precise. I will have an air ticket to go back to UK (at just about the 30 day limit). I will not offer the air ticket until asked to discover if this actually still a requirement with them....

I have done this trip 3 times in the last twelve months.

All Nong Khai ask for is:

1. Photocopies of:
a) your passport identification page
b) the present valid immigration stamp in the passport
c) the valid 60 day visa also in your passport
d) the exit portion of the immigration entry card stapled in your passport

2. A completed copy of Form TM 7 (Application for extension of temporary stay in the Kingdom) complete with 1 (one) 4 * 6 cm photograph (although there is some flexibility on actual size). This form is available on the desk outside the visa office and can be filled in whilst you are waiting if you arrive before the 08:30 opening. The only thing they will insist on is that on the back of TM 7 where you sign next to your photo you MUST put a telephone number.

Also all photocopies submitted must have your signature.

3. Thai baht 1,900-00

The entire process takes less than ten minutes (depending upon whether or not there is a queue.)

As a low-life, undesirable, visa-running, serial tourist I unfortunately have many experiences
in this area and the reality is, every single immigration office adheres to their own policy
when it comes to the granting of ext's for tourist visas. You really might want to consider the
cost-effectiveness of simply obtaining another tourist visa for 60 days and avoid the hassle.
On the other hand, if you simply go a few days in advance, they will either give it to you or not
and while they are not required to refund your application fee, they may not take your money. [-o<

So Nongkhai still ask for a outbound airticket for 30 days extension?

Expats had meeting with Nongkhai immigration 5th april 2009, was this topic brought up?
Are they aware of that they are the only immigration office who still demand a outbound airticket before extend a tourist visa?
Can someone who attended that meeting please inform ?
I was hoping after that meeting, things had improved?
If not, I must take last posters advice and just drop extension, and go Laos for a new 2 entry visa.

I appreciate all answers so far, thank you very much.

No they DO NOT ask for an air ticket nor for proof of residence although some address must obviously be entered on the T7.
As per my previous post in response to Bob Helm, the only items being requested are those listed and my last visit for extension was less than two weeks ago.

It has been (I realised today) over 2 and a half years since I paid Nong Khai Immigration a visit. In light of what the Captain said above I decided to pay them a visit this morning. I did not particularly want to go to Vientiane so just wanted a 30 extension to my tourist visa which expires tomorrow.
Got there reasonably early (8:45) but they were open, even if I was their first customer of the day.
Well what an amazing turn around in attitude over that time...
Just the 3 lady officers present when I arrived, all smiled, all returned my swadee khap. Showed me where extension form was, dealt with it efficiently & pleasantly (slight hiccup in that they originally gave me a 60 day extension rather than 30 & so had to amend it).
Charged me 1,900 baht for the extension & 10 baht for all the passport copying - I had copied nothing :D As the captain says above, completed form, passport photo, passport & exit slip & a few copies of passport pages are all that are required.
My Happy came in to take his position just as I was exiting.
One other thing I noted was that the 3 officers also said hello & goodbye to my TG, although she did not actually accompany me to the desk just into the room - the last time I went she was treated little better than dirt when she was trying to help with some Thai/English translation.

All in all a very quick & surprisingly pleasant experience & just about one of the best for politeness & service that I have encountered anywhere in the world with officials...

I would also add that going prepared with an overnight bag and the necessaries for a trip to Laos is advisable.
Mr Happy has caught me out before and gave me only 7 days for 1,900 baht which I had to accept as last day of visa and not prepared for a Laos run #-o

How long ago was that Roy????
No, he did say Swadee Khap - but I firmly believe that was to his colleagues & not to me.... :D

I agree Bob Helm. The last few times I have been there the service has been great and the attitude has been good.

Last Friday I needed to do a 90 day report at Nong Khai. The wife and I drove there from Udon Thani and arrived at 14:00. I got out at the front steps of the building and the wife went to park the car. I had filled out the reporting form prior to arrival, so I just picked up a queue card and sat down in the waiting area. One of the lady officers looked my way and asked if I was doing a report. I nodded yes and she waved me to the desk. The process was completed just as the wife was walking into the waiting room after parking the car. The elapsed time had to be less than five minutes. Perhaps a little lucky, but consistent with other recent trips there.

About 16/18 months ago Bob. I haven't bothered to try and extend since.
