TRans Asai Highway 13 Klms = Trans Asia Highway 13kms left

Postby bumper » May 3, 2009, 6:40 am

Boy what a ride this would make if you could permission to cross these borders. But it would appear getting that last 13 Klm finished will be no easy task. But something tells me smoothing out the process of crossing all those borders is going to be even a lot harder.

A couple of years back I was very keen to drive from UT to Vietnam and just drive along the coastline for a few days, but the red tape prevented me. I knew I could get a visa into laos easy enough, and i picked up a visa for vietnam at the veitnamese embassy in London, so I was able to travel - but the trouble I had was with the vehicle, I had a passport for the truck, but after exhaustive research I found out that I would encounter all sorts of problems with me, a falang, taking a thai registered truck across borders so I never bothered - I would be interested to know if anyone has actually done this trip in their own vehicle?

I believe the last 13km is already a road, so you could do the ride anyway.

I know what you're saying mate.

To go off topic (just to piss the mods off), I was in Vientiane last weekend. They have a bunch of odd bikes for rent, mainly Dakar Rally Hondas, crappy Estelles (or summit similar) and scooters, but I did see one and thought of you, Ray. A lovely looking Indian. Of course it's heavy, gutless and can't go round corners, just like all good American vehicles, but you would enjoy the ride, I'm sure.

What I'm thinking would be to rent a bike in each country, rather than try to do it on one bike. Much more feasible donchathink? :-k

Ya that would work, an Indian still running unless it's one of the new ones might be rather valuable in the States.

The Indian looked immaculate, so it's probably a fairly new one. It was a nice cream colour and is parked up just around the corner from the Scandi Bakery.
