Tribunal hearing for Westland FOI case - UK politics

Postby BobHelm » August 3, 2010, 7:40 pm

There is a bit of a bizarre tribunal going on in the UK at the minute.
It all centres around if the cabinet minutes from the 1986 cabinet meeting where Michael Heseltine resigned should be made public. Surprisingly the previous Labour Government didn't want them to be. The current Conservative/Liberal Government don't either, which is a touch more understandable as they concern a previous & 'looked back in pleasure' Government of Mrs. Thatcher. :D Labour's reasons are a bit more puzzling but will undoubtedly be clearer if the tribunal finds for freedom!! The official reason of suggesting that it will cause a less accurate recording of future meetings is clearly a nonsense, which, if true, should result in Government heads rolling.
Personally I cannot conceive of any possible reason why they should not be released & should at least provide an insight into one of the UK's great recent political mysteries...
