It's Halloween tomorrow and I hate it. It's not been an Australian thing until the last 10 years or so. Big sign on my front door tomorrow saying "PISS OFF" . Hope you all enjoy it in your respective Countries ....

Could not agree with you more Aardy just another retail marketing ploy that the Aus market and many other countries have taken on I may not be quite as polite but my village is fairly small so it may not happen here could add a lot more but the flak would be horrendous. 555

Trick or Treat Tomorrow.

It is great fun for the kids and adults in Canada, and has been for many years. As a youngster, I enjoyed dressing up and going out and about shouting, 'Trick or treat, smell my feet, Give me something good to eat, Not too big, not too small, just the size of Montreal. We usually got sparklers to wave around and firecrackers to throw down the sewers. Some neighbours went all out to make their homes look spooky.

About 30-40 years ago, it became customary for young adults to also get dressed up and party. The homosexual crowd used to parade around Yonge Street in Toronto in their female costumes.

Tomorrow it is going to only be about 3-5 degrees in the evening and it will probably rain, but who cares, trick or treating is fun for the participants.

Halloween is good, harmless fun.

Particularly when confined to the USA and Canada.

I am not sure the rest of the world really needs much more US cultural hegemony.

We didn't get it from the U.S. It not just a U.S. thing. Apparently, Halloween is part of Celtic traditions (Scottish, Welsh), and I suppose those guys brought it to Canada with them when they arrived. England, I think, celebrates Halloween too.

The following gives more information than most Australians would ever want to know about Halloween,

I'm not big on Halloween. It's only started to appear in New Zealand in the last 5 or so years driven by commercial interests trying to make a buck from selling Halloween gear. I'm going to give just one Halloween treat today.

I'm going to give the local whino 2 cans of bourbon and coke. The poor bloke doesn't look too good so he doesn't need to buy a Halloween costume to look scarey. He asks for a dollar most days because I sometimes give him something. Some might think I'm wicked for giving grog to someone with a booze problem. I think it makes him happy. I think he's too poor to buy much drink.

He would make an excellent Long John Silver with that peg leg of his.

He is certainly no Johnny Depp - although I have read elsewhere he sports a mature aged pony tail.

Wallace Berry was the original Long John Silver in Treasure Island, which was a great kid's movie.

I hate Halloween ..... just been to 7/11 and the staff in there said how great my costume was , very novel idea and asked where was the party i was going too ......... cheeky buggars i was in my normal civvies !!  ... so what if i dress like OBL ...

On a serious note seems Halloween has been getting quite a bit of negative press , bad publicity this year with some calling for it to be banned ......along with Bonfire night , Shrove Tuesday and Valentines day  . THE WORLDS GONE MAD .
