Turn off TV or Turn off UBC first?

Postby parrot » September 19, 2011, 7:06 pm

We've had two different TVs and a few different UBC boxes, same problem.

One remote controls the UBC signal. Another controls the TV. If you switch off the UBC signal before switching off the TV, there's a loud explosion (literally) of static that comes out of the TV. If you switch off the TV first, then switch off UBC, silence.

There's gotta be a way around this!

Turn off TV or Turn off UBC first?

I unplug the lot every night after reading that those tuners for cable channels are one of the biggest electricity-eaters in the house, as they're always apparently working, searching, tuning, or whatever.

No idea if it's really true or not, but easy enough to do every night before bed.

Turn off TV or Turn off UBC first?

Used to get this with cheap stereo/ or guitar amps. Filter capacitors discharging. Probably a fix for it but how much do you spend on cheap electronics.
Best solution is to turn down the volume.

Turn off TV or Turn off UBC first?

Postby douglas » September 21, 2011, 12:22 pm

Hi,
If you have changed the UBC box and the T.V. It is unlikely the problem is them. Have you had the unit in the aerial checked. If your have anyone close, that has UBC, ask if you can connect your set to their layout, and see what happens. And go foreward from there.
Cheers Doug.

never had any problems shuting down the t.v. and box with sat. t.v. Jeds post caught my eye, on singapore channel we were told that if you just switched off the t.v. the system would stay on standby and fee useing electricity. it was claimed that if you pulled the plug out when you wre not watching the t.v.you could reduce your electricity bill by up to ten percent.
