Twist potatoes

Postby trubrit » January 9, 2011, 11:17 am

Has anyone tried this new style potatoes? The idea originates from Korea but we now have a vendor selling them in the UD night market.

.

They are basically a whole potatoe on a stick and can be had in any of 5 flavours. They are selling them @25bht each . They are delicious and a vast improvement on the now rather boring , french fries .

Not sure, but they may be a franchise as I've seen a few around town. There's an independent vendor who sells them for 20bt at Nong Sim park and yes they are arroy mak mak.

I've them use seasoning spices. My son likes the pizza seasoning, don't recall what the others are. There's usually one parked out front of St Mary after school lets out.

The five flavours are : cheese, chilli, onion, pizza and b/BBQ. Its a sprinkle on flavouring so you can mix them . Yes it is a franchise or an individual trader thing . A single trader set up is apparently about 40k bht to start. The selling price can vary from 10_25bht depending on the size of the potato used .

We had a seller setup in front of our busy 7-11.He was doing a brisk business to start with,I got hooked!Lasted about 2 months as I noticed business was definitely slowing down. Now he is no more!

I don't know why,I liked them, but maybe after the novelty wore off,the Thais might realize that at 20 baht each,it is relatively expensive. They make them fresh,so there is a bit of a wait involved!

40K start-up,could be duplicated for less than half that,IMO,relatively simple set-up!

I like them alot and have been disappointed that they are gone!

Not actually sure but they appear to be the standard mung farang you see everywhere. However the instruction blurb does say "The oil must be maintained at a temperature of 170c to ensure the potato is crisp"
fatbas...d . Shame your Dad didn't patent it . You would be a millionaire by now .

Thanks for posting the video Papaguido.

The staff overmanning on that stall looks like it would cut into the profits, plus the guy at the stove was confused about the right temperature.
