Re: UD Town (Formally UD Center)
Keep your Cod and pass me those artery harding fats that come free with the bacon, cheese burger from BK
I for one will be rather disappointed if Mac comes to town and an individual stays at home

Another one here who wishes BK will come to town but would settle for McD if we have to. Trans fats, artery cloggers or whatever be damned. Double whopper once a week or so won't kill you.
Methinks it must be time for another roadtrip to Patters.

Hungry for a Big Mac? Next time you cook a burger at home put 1000 island dressing on it. That's McDonalds secret sauce.(at least very close)
No man has a good enough memory to be a succesful liar.
Re: UD Town (Formally UD Center)
Well didn't realise how correct that would be. Went down that way with Pops today. Its just a tented city, not even as substantial as the existing market. Just a lot of small, admittedly, colourful, tents. Can't see any big names buying into that.Pops took some pics, maybe he will post.trubrit wrote:"Under the theme of Shopping in the park"That presumably means outside in the open air, no aircon malls here, more like an extension to the existing market.

Re: UD Town (Formally UD Center)
It seems that the UD Town is turning out to be a temporary market place, as is Preecha and Center Point. How long it will be there will be determine how successful it is. UD Town is turning out to be a tent city and possibly only a couple of permanent structures as shown in the plans on the bulletin board at the site.
This last picture is what is being constructed/erected at this time. It's all temporary structures (TENTS) except for the concert and carnival in the event area.

Re: UD Town (Formally UD Center)
Can this really be the same place envisaged on their website.?
"quote"The company will develop the project in two phases. The first, starting next month will involve UD Town on a 14 rai plot"
"quote" UDTown will be the shopping destination for all people in the upper northeastern region and expects 20-30 thousand people a day."
Now its well known that advertising agencies exercise poetic license in portrayal of products, but really if this is the same project, they have surely gone overboard?
When you look at Pops pics, the overall view is actually upside down and shows the station on the right, so stand on your head to get a clear picture.
You will notice the units "tents" are encaged in wire mesh and the whole area has no protection from the elements, sun in the day ,nor rain at night.
If this is to be the image of Udon Thani I wouldn't like to know what its supposed to portray.
Compare that with Pops pics! Surely someones having a joke? Maybe not the same place?"quote"The company will develop the project in two phases. The first, starting next month will involve UD Town on a 14 rai plot"

Now compare to the onsite portrayal.

Re: UD Town (Formally UD Center)
..... it looks like the onsite portrayal includes a hot air balloon - presumably using the PR folk as an unlimited source of its power
Ashamed to be English since 23rd June 2016 when England voted for racism & economic suicide.

Re: UD Town (Formally UD Center)
I'm guessing (hoping) that it's being built in two phases. The first phase shown in the artist impression above is the UD Bazaar (Sunday Market), and the second phase (UD Town) pictured on their website, is yet to be built. It's quite a long piece of ground so I doubt they will fill the whole of it with cheap tents, well I hope not anyway.

Re: UD Town (Formally UD Center)
My understanding is the don't have permission to build permanent structures as yet. I told from a person that the railroad company has to give that permission, which they haven't, since it's their land.

Just what Udon needs, another street market
Udon Thani, best seen through your car's rear view mirror.

Re: UD Town (Formally UD Center)
Going off topic a bit but that's exactly what has happened with the former "Farang Alley" area that was excavated. Nothing but street market stalls now with umbrellas/canopies and they're selling clothes/trinkets and such. Seemed to be enough in the Night Market area but, hey, can't knock the entreprenurianship spirit here.
Hopefully, the newest extension to the night market is temporary but they probably said the same about the Sukhumvit and Patpong sidewalk vendors in Bangkok, eh?

Re: UD Town (Formally UD Center)
there are three signs on the roads around the site that say sell. any idea what is for sale??
Re: UD Town (Formally UD Center)
Property developments in the initial stages, shopping complexes and other, are likely to be postponed as it is common wisdom to prefer money to assets during a depression. IMO there will be many great opportunities in Thailand to buy land and buildings at fire sale prices in the near future; but of course, not for average falang.
Those tents may become a long-time fixture.
