Just what Udon needs, another street market
Udon Thani, best seen through your car's rear view mirror.

Re: UD Town (Formally UD Center)
Going off topic a bit but that's exactly what has happened with the former "Farang Alley" area that was excavated. Nothing but street market stalls now with umbrellas/canopies and they're selling clothes/trinkets and such. Seemed to be enough in the Night Market area but, hey, can't knock the entreprenurianship spirit here.
Hopefully, the newest extension to the night market is temporary but they probably said the same about the Sukhumvit and Patpong sidewalk vendors in Bangkok, eh?

Re: UD Town (Formally UD Center)
there are three signs on the roads around the site that say sell. any idea what is for sale??
Re: UD Town (Formally UD Center)
Property developments in the initial stages, shopping complexes and other, are likely to be postponed as it is common wisdom to prefer money to assets during a depression. IMO there will be many great opportunities in Thailand to buy land and buildings at fire sale prices in the near future; but of course, not for average falang.

Re: UD Town (Formally UD Center)
Trying to fathom this one out Lee. It looks as though your shots are from the train station looking towards Aek, whereas the artist impression appears to be the opposite way. Am I right?
Re: UD Town (Formally UD Center)
The shots are taken from opposite Zap buffet looking south towards the rail crossing.

Be interesting to see how the other 2 local Japanese restaurents go, taking on Fuji.
The Japanese buffet place opposite the Police Station closed approx 6 weeks ago.

Fuji is an excellent choice for a restaurant in this new area.Mcdonalds to fatten up the Thai children.
Trouble with the artist's impression is that the road appears enormous and that parking will not be a problem in the area

It also seems to give the green light to walking on the grass, so that would indicate it would be okay for motorbikes as wellpompui wrote:Fuji is an excellent choice for a restaurant in this new area.Mcdonalds to fatten up the Thai children.

Re: UD Town (Formally UD Center)
So no thought for a drive through McDonalds but at least it is near to AEK Udon for emergency fat and sodium overdose victims

Re: UD Town (Formally UD Center)
I look at the plastic kids playground that is UD centre and think to myself, "What a opportunity missed " They could have got a half decent architect to build a nice Italian themed shopping centre /based around a Piazza or similar.
Instead what we have got is an eclectic Mish Mash of what someone thinks is Contemporary McDonalds Corporation architecture.
Poor old Udon gets the short straw every time.

Re: UD Town (Formally UD Center)
I have to agree with FB it does look like the architect was Ronald himself. It really does resemble what I would imagine a McDonald's theme park to look like.

Re: UD Town (Formally UD Center)
Just a note. They have started to make the road down from AEK to the station a two lane highway. Its utter chaos and mud everywhere.A place to avoid if possible.
Ageing is a privilige denied to many .
Re: UD Town (Formally UD Center)
also noticed the parking lot, maybe vendors only at tent city, as 'FULL', and blocked off, though spots open. was given the 'full' excuse when we asked, saw at least 4 spot while driving by and looking for new entrance, u-turn and parked over by train station, not where i like to leave car. so may avoid it completely till done, as out of town a bit, hopefully end of oct they will have things squared away, as i prefer it over preecha market.
Re: UD Town (Formally UD Center)
I mistakenly drove down this area a few nights ago, it took me the best part of 20 minutes to get from where Fuzzy Ken's is to Aek Udon on Phosi road. The crossroads near the night market was a complete mess as the traffic lights weren't working as usual, and the traffic leading up to phosi road had come to a complete standstill.

Thanks for the heads up guys. It is appreciated.Just a note. They have started to make the road down from AEK to the station a two lane highway. Its utter chaos and mud everywhere.A place to avoid if possible.
Lee...perhaps you could make a Traffic Snafu thread and also make it a sticky? Whenever anyone encounters road work, etc. They could report in the thread.
As far as this being finished by end of October... Well if I was a betting man.
