UD Town Halloween Costume Competition Oct 21 2011

Postby rct » October 18, 2011, 6:34 am

I am posting this at my wife's request, and writng what is on the paper. UD Town will have a Halloween dress up competition for families with children, on October 21 at 1800, UD Town soi 2. Apprantly only about 12 families have pre registered of which one expat (guess who), so they need to ramp up the applications! I am also informing Paramin school, readers can inform whoever you wish!

Attendees in theory should arrive by 17h00 on Oct 21, and be pre registered (by Oct 15, though now extended). They want two categories, Thai families, and also Expat families. Can register at UDTown office near Swensons, or email to siwaporn@goUDtown.com (hard to read on leaflet) or call 089-788-4868. The form does not state it, but my wife said Oct 21 is round one, there will be another finals round a week or so later, details sketchy.

FANTASY HORROR FANCY NIGHT October 21st 2011
Cash prize for each category (Thai, Expat) 10,000 baht winner, 1st runner up 5000 baht, 2nd runner up 3000 baht.

Rules competition:Thai Haunt (for Thai) and Expat Haunt (for Non Thai). All ages and sex accepted. Applications can apply up to 4 person team. Applicant must be responsible for their own costume and make up.

Good luck and may the best ghost win.

Categories based on race?
What difference does it make as all the entrants will in masks and make up.
How very diversive.

Imagine the outcry if you tried that in the USA or Britain.

Had a coffee at Wawee UD Town this morning, saw a poster up promoting the event, the final will be Oct 30th.

Re Prenders comment, interesting, though I believe their intention in mentioning both groups is to be inclusive of all, to attract all, thus intended in a positive way, not a negative one. The organizer was concerned she had 11 Thai families and only one expat signed up so far, hey we'd be a shoe in for a prize, so moderators feel free to delete this thread! Anyway, let's see how they handle presenting both "ethnic" groups separately!

Thanks for the heads-up rct. I think we should leave the thread here if you don't mind, some people may want to watch the final competition.

Hi Lee, as you know, my comment was meant tongue in cheek, to increase my chance of winning the prize! Anyway sounds like fun to dress up the kids etc.

You'd think that the good folks being such an event would have something posted on the internet about this event.......I struck out in English, I struck out in Thai. I'd be happy to try my hand at translating the rules/competition information if someone can find a link.

UD Town Halloween finals, Oct 30 2011

Postby rct » October 22, 2011, 6:10 am

The competition finals is October 30th sometime after 18h00.

Last night "preliminary" was fun and entertaining, actually got going closer to 19h00. There were enough Thai "teams" many of which were very creative, to make it Halloween, including quite a few children. Though mostly adults in costumes, a couple of which astonishingly good with scary performances. Am afraid my nearly 3 year old may have had nightmares last night, she was scared through quite a bit of it.

I believe there were only four "expat" teams of which two families, and a couple solo children of expats. Needless to say all four expat contestents made it to the finals! With only three prizes per group (Thai, expat) of 10,000, 5,000 and 3,000 baht, I'd hate to come in 4th, so we better work it harder. To be honest we didn't know it was to be a contest when we first prepared to participate, just going for fun, which will still be my approach. I can see why some adult Thais are going for the gold however, which is probably what makes the show so entertaining!

We didn't stick around too long because it was a little overwhelming for my daughter, the music and all the costumes were very good but quite frightening to her.

I noticed the new 'Melt Me' shop were handing out chocolate Halloween goodies. What I saw of the performances were very good.

Thank you RTC, we will try to make the finals if we can get close enough to park our country wagon. We also have a 4 year old so it will depend on her tolerance for fright. She did a Brazilian Carnival Parade (at a theme park) a couple of years ago but she was braver at 2:)

"Pee noi."

Is that your princess?? What do you feed her, chicken liver?

When we first moved to Thailand, you'd be hard pressed to find any reference to Halloween....even in Bangkok. But over the years, that's changing. I wonder if they'll ever reach the point of actually going trick-or-treating!
