Udon Bread - Bakery & Delicatessen

I am happy to leave rocket science to the rocket scientists, and bread baking to the bakers.

Unfortunately, it has been a while since I have been able to source a consistent and reliable quality producer of the latter - which has left me with Makro's fluffy white.

All (sensible - N.B. jumbo, downunder and their ilk) suggestions are welcome - except baking it myself. I will therefore stick to my own areas of expertise - consumption of large Leos, and some off/on road cycling. :D

Too bad. Competition became stronger and stronger, so it seems.

Everyone has there own taste preference. I have had bread from several places around Udon including Juttas. For me the sour dough rye at Udon bread is best for the price, haven't had their white bread so I can't comment on that.

Makro Nong Khai have a very good quality choice of breads, not the fluffy white type so beloved of Thais, but they bake in limited amounts and styles, they will also cut it for you, not sure if Makro Udon does this bread though, as I am a very infrequent visitor.

sl, I suspect that the fluffy white I buy at Makro Udon is the same as they sell at NK.

My main use for this bread is as breakfast toast - so it needs to be square/rectangular to fit in the toaster. The fact that the Makro stuff is pre-sliced, thicker and less sweet than the more available stuff sold in Tesco and mini-marts, makes it more suitable for my purpose.

Chern Chim previously stocked white and brown square loaves (unsliced), that would last up to 10 days in the fridge if wrapped correctly. Maybe 8 months ago this ceased (I think the baker went out of business), and their replacement white loaf is not a patch on the previous. :(

As all long-term stayers here (including farang shop-keepers) have probably discovered, continuity of supply is a constant source of disappointment.

Udon Macro wholewheat is the way I go not as sweat as the white stuff, you just have to try and catch it on the day it is baked.

Tops has a decent full corn ryebread for 130 B.
Will check out Juttas, which looks very nice judging from the website,

Yes got to agree Jack. The bread CC used to sell was the best I have ever had in Thailand. Unfortunately I understand the bakers moved to Chiang Mai, since then I know they have tried several different suppliers, but in my opinion , none have come anywhere near them. Currently I am getting my bread from Makro, the sliced white at 33bht makes excellent toast and sandwiches and for a few baht more , when it's available, the whole wheat is good .I also love a crispy roll at times so I buy their part baked rolls and various breads from the freezer in the bakery, keep for ages and when needed, pop in the oven for ten minutes, result a hot fresh crispy bread roll .That's about as good as it gets. \:D/
Ageing is a privilige denied to many .

I have seen bread sold at Villa Market with Udon Bread label. Don't remember if any phone number was displayed on the label.
