Udon Golf Society 10th March Round at Srithani.
10 Members turned up this morning for our Stroke Round which we realized would test the group out.
Course in ok condition although the greens needed cutting and mowing as they were slow. Stroke play of course tougher to adapt to although it is enjoyable.
A few very high scores on the par 5 holes that did not prove to “Lucky’ for some.
Peter Hellery though continually on the improve had a good score to win the day with 69. Ian Barrett also had a great round with a 70 followed by John Cooke in 3rd spot with 74.
Closest to the Pin holes went to Graham Firth and Chuck Mc Cormick.
Overall Scores- Peter Hellery 69,Ian Barrett 70,John Cooke 74,William Chang 78,Graham Firth 79,Terry Aston& David Exley 83,Tony Jones 85,
Chuck Mc Cormick 93.
No Society Round next week as the Group will be in Khon Kaen for the March IFGG Round.

Ubolrat Friday Round 14th March 2014
A few guys away today noticeably John Cooke, John Mc Morris, Scotty Taylor, Per Hansen and Bob Strutt for various reasons ,however we still had 9 guys who fronted up this morning at Ubolrat.
The temperature was expected to reach high 30’s i.e. 39/40 and this proved to be the case. Hydrating was essential for anyone who wanted to get through the round.
Course was on good condition although it did test our Play as it lay policy with some wet and muddy spots on the course. However in the opinion of the majority it is still preferred to play as it lies compared to being unsure where the fairway ends of the rough commences.
Overall there were much improved scores which was heartening for a few of us who have struggled lately.
Winners; David Exley 40 points, Terry Aston 36,Peter Hellery 35.
Closest to the pin on the par 3’s went to Graham Firth and John Ward.

IFGG March Round 2014
Twelve of our members turned up at Ubolrat yesterday ie 17th to compete in our opening round of this year’s IFGG.
Hot conditions prevailed and tested all players as reflected in the low scores. The Greens were a touch slower than usual but were still true which made it the same for everyone.
We teed off at 9 and it made for a relatively slow round as there were many Thais on the course preparing for a Tournament later in the week.
Winner with 36 points was Tony Jones with John Cooke ion 2nd with 33 and Chuck McCormick pipping Peter Hellery on countback with 32 points.
We had 4 Closest to the Pin Holes with Graham Firth, John Furlong winning one each and Peter Hellery cleaning up the other two holes.
With 7 players within 5 points of the leader Tony Jones it was felt that the Overall spot was wide open.
A good social night out in Khon Kaen followed the round with dinner at Di Dine and drinks at The Blue Bar.
830am tee off on Tuesday 18th following breakfast for most pre the round in the Dancoon dining room.
John Furlong had to wear the Funny hat to tee off due to this miserable 21 points at Ubolrat.
In spite of the oppressive conditions there were many high scores recorded making light of any suggestion that a night out drinking affected a players performance the following day.
John Furlong surprised everyone to record 39 points to go from bottom to top within 24 hours. If he was a horse he would be swabbed for sure.
Peter Hellery continued his great form to finish second winning on count back over David Exley and Tony Jones.
Closest to the Pin on the par 3 holes on the back nine went to John Cooke and Terry Aston.
Overall 2 day Winner was Tony Jones with 2,36 point rounds which was impressive as rarely does the first day leader win the overall 2 day comp.
Trevor Edge who suffered with a head cold the total round earned the Funny Hat and the Wooden Spoon on count back from Ian Barrett.
APRIL IFGG ROUND will be Wednesday 8th at Singha and Thursday 9th at Ubolrat.

Monday 31st March 2014

Early 7 30am tee off at Srithani this morning to try and avoid the forecast 41 degree heat.

Numbers were down with members away at this time so we only had 7 in attendance.

Course in ok condition although the greens were slow which was surprising seeing they had a tournament on the course Sunday.

No Closest to the pin on the designated par 3 holes so instead we had a Winner and Runner-up Prize instead.

Winner Terry Aston 35 points, 2nd Chuck Mc Morris 34, 3rd Scotty Taylor 33 Peter Hellery 30,Gary Parks, John Ward, William Chang all on 25 points.

A Thai Holiday next Monday but we will advise later in the week if we will take a chance that if we teed off early we would miss the expected Thai groups.

Srithani have reverted to Sports Day Prices for the weekends and Thai holidays, commencing now.

Terry Aston

Organizer.

Ubolrat Friday 4th April 2014
A depleted group today with so many of our members away on holidays or employment.
Course was ok helped by overnight rain and minimal mud on balls throughout the round.
Peter Hellery had a blinder showing his continued improvement to record a 39 point round to win easily with Chuck Mc Cormick in second place with 35 points. Terry Aston beat Trevor Edge on count back for third although their 29 points was nothing to get excited about. Ian Barrett continued his struggles with the course to only record 21 points that belies his ability.
Closest to the pin on the par 3 hole went to Chuck.

Udon Golf Society Round Srithani 7th April 2014
Nine of us turned up for the Society Round yesterday at Sri Thani in spite of it being a Thai holiday

We teed off at 7 30 am to avoid any large Thai groups that may have decided to play.

Course was ok except for the putting greens that had not been cut and on a couple they had commenced coring. Made it difficult to judge the speed of the greens and certainly not helpful with us all playing Singha tomorrow.

Scotty Taylor with 35 points came out on top with Tony Jones in second on 33 points.

Ian Barrett and Chuck McCormick won the two closest to the pin on the par 3 holes.

IFGG ISAAN TROPHY STROKE ROUND.
Venues Singha Pk and Ubolrat Dam.
April 9/10 2014
8 IFGG members teed off at Singha Pk yesterday in quite oppressive conditions.
Although we had been advised that the course would not be in maintenance mode unfortunately that was not the case. A number of the putting surfaces were cored and sanded and the grooves made it impossible to play a normal putting stroke.
Most disappointing for as a group we enjoy the course but would not have attempted to do so if the Singha staff were in any way up front and honest.
Ian Barrett however made light of the conditions with 83 off the stick to pip Scotty Taylor by 4 points. Tony Jones one stroke behind in third place to set up a showdown between the three of them the next day.
Closest to the pin on par 3 holes went to Ian and David Exley.
As per usual we all gathered at The Blues Bar for our pre-dinner dinks then onto Di Dine for our evening meal.
Early start this morning as we headed off to Ubolrat to have breakfast and tee off at 8 30am
Course had been watered and this made quite a few of the holes much longer. Overall though the course was good with the greens at least all in good condition.
Trevor Edge joined us for the second day and played 1 over to his handicap to win the day with 73 just nipping Tony on 74.
Scotty won the only closest to the pin prize.
Overall Results
Ian Barrett who had led the field playing in the last group looked set for a win until he blew his
chances on the 9th with a disastrous double figure score that belied his form on the rest of the round.
Scores overall were no where near the Singha results except for Tony Jones who had a 2 day 149 score to once again walk away with the comp and take home the 2014 Isaan Trophy.
Final Scores and positions.
Tony Jones 149, Ian Barrett 152, Graham Firth, Scotty Taylor 153, Terry Aston, Peter Hellery 161,
David Exley 166, Chuck Mc Cormick 184.
Chuck with a couple of rounds he would prefer to forget took home the Crazy hat and the Wooden spoon to hold until the May round.

Udon Golf Society- Srithani Forrest Course,14th April 2014.

Nine of us teed off this morning at Srithani at 7 30 am hoping to avoid the expected holiday influx of Thai holiday golfers. We almost achieved that except for allowing two Thai guys to go before our 3x 3ball groups.

Wrong move as it evolved as the two guys were hackers with no idea of course management or etiquette. As a result especially on the back nine the going was so slow it took most out of their game.

Excepting the current whiz kid in Tony Jones who is making a habit of winning the comps.

Tony Jones 36,Graham Firth 33 and Peter Hellery 30 emerged as the leaders.

Tony also won the closest to the pin on the 12th par 3 hole.

Ubolrat Dam Friday 18th April 2014 Round.

A very warm day at Ubolrat for the nine of us who teed off at 8 15am this morning. Course in great condition and not that many players on the course so it was basically clear going all the way.

Chuck "Yoga"Mc Cormick resurrected himself today with a super 21 points on the front nine to finish with 36 points in winning the day.

Peter Hellery the most improved player in our group had 35 points to finish second while "Lucky" Tony Jones put in another consistent effort for 34 points to finish third.

Chuck and Tony won the two closest to the pin prizes on the 2nd and 3rd par 3 holes.

Hi, my name is Charles Cunningham and just moved to Udon from Pattaya. I was an active member of the Pattaya Sports Club (PSC) there and have a handicap. Well, several handicaps like chipping and putting. I am in the process of moving but have some free time. I would be interested in getting to know people who play golf and joining the group. I know you are playing May 6 and you play Uboirat on Fridays. I do not know where Uboirat is located. Can I just google it? Well, look forward to meeting folks. Thanks for any info you can provide.
Regards,
Charlie

Udon Golf Society
Once again very hot and oppressive conditions that required all players to hydrate continually throughout their round at Srithani Today. The low scores overall reflected the effect the heat had on all participating. Course was ok except for the 7th which was in the process of being cored and sanded.

Closest to the Pin on par 3 was won by Ian Barrett, not an unusual occurrence as he is extremely accurate with his irons.

Overall Winner was Gary Parks with 33 points with regular winner Lucky Tony Jones second with 32 points.

Sports Day at Victory Park on Wednesday for those interested will be a 7 30am sharp tee off. The course is in super condition at the moment and the earlier start minimises the effect the expected heat will have on us all.

Friday will once again be at Ubolrat for an 8 15am grouping to enable an 8 30am tee off. I and Graham will be away so check with Peter Hellery upon your arrival so he is aware you are there to play.

Eight of us rolled up this morning for our regular Wednesday Victory Pk round. Peter Dine was a welcome addition as quite a few of our guys away at this time. Peter Hellery's birthday as well although the course was not kind to him on this his special day.

Scotty Taylor displayed super focus and concentration to be the only one of our group to even get in the buffer zone with his 36 points to win the day. Tony Jones was once again part of the prize pool with 33 points to finish second.

Ian Barrett and Tony won the two closest to the pins on the par 3 holes.

Friday at Ubolrat, please be there at 8 15am and Monday at Srithani for the weekly Society round 7 45 am for an 8am tee off.

Peter Hellery will be there both days to organize the rounds and groupings.
Cheers
Terry Aston

Udon Golf Society Results May 5, 2014

Extremely difficult conditions today at Srithani even though we teed off at 7 30am. Nine of us in attendance so we split into three 3 balls. No one else on the course when we teed off so no hold-ups until our 2nd and 3rd groups got to the 10th where a 6 ball Thai group had slipped in.

Thai groups it seems have boycotted the course since the new management took over and they increased prices. The course pales in comparison to Ubolrat in quality but being closer to Udon Golfers results in us playing here in lieu of Ubolrat more often.

Anyway William Chang stole the day with a brilliant 39 easily winning over the next best score being Graham Firth with 32 points in second place.

The rest of our scores were to low to bother mentioning. The heat and oppressive humidity though is playing a major role as of late with very few even getting into the buffer zone.

Scotty Taylor won the only Closest to the Pin prize for the day.

I see the inevitable happened later in your round. These muppets don't understand the etiquette of golf. A mate of mine came up with an idea. Pay a deposit of 500 baht per person and if the round is not completed within a specified time then the deposit is lost. Maybe the groups would be smaller and the play quicker.
Here's tae us, wha's like us, damn few, and they're a' deid. Mair's the pity!

Society Round at Srithani this morning in extremely difficult conditions with the temperature in the 40's and humid as well.
Only two players in David Exley 36 points and Scotty Taylor 33 points handled the conditions to win the day.
William Chang and Terry Aston won the two closest to the pins prizes on the par 3 holes.

IFGG May 2014 Results.

Nine of us teed off this morning at 8 15am at Dancoon Golf Course for the second day of our May IFGG competition.

Very hot even at this early time and the heat did not relent for the whole round. The course was in ok condition although the fairways are getting a touch scruffy and the greens although consistent had been all sanded.

Leaders from Day 1 Terry Aston, Scotty Taylor and Trevor Edge were last to tee off as is the normal practice and with Terry only 2 points clear there was a strong chance that anyone could still win the 2 day Comp.

John Furlong with only 23 points yesterday won today round with a fantastic 38 points easily from Terry Aston and Tony Jones in 2nd and 3rd Spot.

Closest to the pin on the 2 par 3 holes went to Denni Price and Tony Jones.

Overall Points for the field as follows.

Terry Aston 68,John Furlong, Graham Firth and Trevor Edge all on 61points,Tony Jones 57,David Exley 55,Peter Hellery 52,Denni Price and Scotty Taylor N/R
