Udon Golf Society Results May 5, 2014

Extremely difficult conditions today at Srithani even though we teed off at 7 30am. Nine of us in attendance so we split into three 3 balls. No one else on the course when we teed off so no hold-ups until our 2nd and 3rd groups got to the 10th where a 6 ball Thai group had slipped in.

Thai groups it seems have boycotted the course since the new management took over and they increased prices. The course pales in comparison to Ubolrat in quality but being closer to Udon Golfers results in us playing here in lieu of Ubolrat more often.

Anyway William Chang stole the day with a brilliant 39 easily winning over the next best score being Graham Firth with 32 points in second place.

The rest of our scores were to low to bother mentioning. The heat and oppressive humidity though is playing a major role as of late with very few even getting into the buffer zone.

Scotty Taylor won the only Closest to the Pin prize for the day.

I see the inevitable happened later in your round. These muppets don't understand the etiquette of golf. A mate of mine came up with an idea. Pay a deposit of 500 baht per person and if the round is not completed within a specified time then the deposit is lost. Maybe the groups would be smaller and the play quicker.

Society Round at Srithani this morning in extremely difficult conditions with the temperature in the 40's and humid as well.
Only two players in David Exley 36 points and Scotty Taylor 33 points handled the conditions to win the day.
William Chang and Terry Aston won the two closest to the pins prizes on the par 3 holes.

IFGG May 2014 Results.

Nine of us teed off this morning at 8 15am at Dancoon Golf Course for the second day of our May IFGG competition.

Very hot even at this early time and the heat did not relent for the whole round. The course was in ok condition although the fairways are getting a touch scruffy and the greens although consistent had been all sanded.

Leaders from Day 1 Terry Aston, Scotty Taylor and Trevor Edge were last to tee off as is the normal practice and with Terry only 2 points clear there was a strong chance that anyone could still win the 2 day Comp.

John Furlong with only 23 points yesterday won today round with a fantastic 38 points easily from Terry Aston and Tony Jones in 2nd and 3rd Spot.

Closest to the pin on the 2 par 3 holes went to Denni Price and Tony Jones.

Overall Points for the field as follows.

Terry Aston 68,John Furlong, Graham Firth and Trevor Edge all on 61points,Tony Jones 57,David Exley 55,Peter Hellery 52,Denni Price and Scotty Taylor N/R

Udon Golf Society Round Results 19th May 2014
Only 5 players rolled up this morning for our Udon Society round. Conditions ok at Wing 23 but certainly not our preferred course.
Rex individual dropped out after 9 holes leaving only 4 of us to battle. David Exley with only 13 points front nine reversed the situation with 23 back nine to win the day.
Scores David Exley 36,Graham Firth 35,Tony Jones and Terry Aston 33points.

UDON GOLF GROUP VICTORY PK 21ST May 2014
Eleven of our group rolled up today for our now regular Wednesday Sports Day round.
Many people on the course which did cause some minor holdups during the round. However it was a pleasant round with the course in good condition even though they are continually working to improve the place.
Terry Aston 36 points won on count back from Ian Barrett in an extremely tight contest. Scotty Taylor and Rex individual won the two closest to the pin prizes.

Ubolrat Udon Golf Friday 23rd May 2014 Results
Only 9 of us turned up today at Ubolrat for our regular Friday comp which no doubt is a lot to do with the heat.

Regardless it was a good day although the high temps in the mid to high 30s was draining at times.

Greens were in maintenance mode which although is necessary made putting extremely difficult in judging the speed of the greens.

Scores were surprisingly good considering the difficulty of the greens with David Exley on the eve of his return to the UK having a 38 point game to win the day. Scotty Taylor beat Terry Aston on count back with both having 35 points.

Closest to the pin on the par 3 holes went to Peter Hellery and Trevor Edge.

Scores- David Exley 38,Scotty Taylor & Terry Aston 35,Peter Hellery 34,Tony Jones and Bob Strutt 33,Trevor Edge 30,Graham Firth 29,Denni Price 25.

Ubolrat Friday Golf Results
Nine of us teed off this morning at Ubolrat in extremely humid conditions. Course ok but heat certainly a factor by the low scores recorded.

Ian Barrett with 31 points won the day with Trevor Edge second on 30 and Terry Aston in third on count back with 29 points.

Next week Srithani on Monday 8am tee off, Victory Park Wednesday for an 8am tee off and Ubolrat Friday for an

8 15am tee off on Friday.

Udon Thani Golf Society Round at Srithani 2nd June 2014
With so many members away only 6 of us teed off at Srithani today for our Society round. It was pleasant going heat wise for the first part of the round but that changed and the conditions became oppressive after that.
Greens were inconsistent and fairways need work but that did not stop Scotty Taylor from having a 38 point round to win the day easily.
For the rest of us the round was not enjoyable as the conditions sapped any enthusiasm we might have had at the start.

Price was down to 470 baht from previous 570 baht (green fee and caddie fee).

The Management is trying to get things ship shape but they certainly have a long way to go.

Victory Park Round today 4th June 2014.
We played a Survival Golf Round today in oppressive conditions at Ubolrat. Peter Hellery maintained his concentration the longest and as a result won the day. The other four of us faltered and basically threw in the towel although Per Hansen had a chance until 2 OB's on the 18th.
As indicated in the past week the heat and humidity a major factor in the low scores recently.;

Udon Golf Ubolrat Friday Round 6th June 2014

7 of us teed up at Ubolrat this morning in humid conditions which has been the norm of late.
Scotty Taylor maintained his focus throughout to win the day with a well deserved 37 points.
Denni Price approaching good form pipped Trevor Edge on a countback for second with 32points.
Trevor Edge just edged Peter Hellery with a great shot on the par 3. 12th hole.
Joe McGowan and Jeff Barnes were welcome additions to the group today.
Next week schedule;
Monday Srithani. 7 45am tee off
Wednesday Victory Pk. 7 30am tee off
Friday Ubolrat 7 45am tee off.
Guys the earlier tee off times are to assist us avoid the heat so please be prepare and be on time ready to play.

Udon Golf Society Round Results 9th June 2014
Surprising today with the weather a touch cooler to start that only 5 rolled up at Srithani.
First time in ages it was pleasant although things changed on the back nine but overall it was much better than usual.
Decided to mix up the Comp format today with Stable ford front 9 then Stroke on the back nine.
Rex individual 17 points just pipped Terry Aston 16 points to win the Stable ford section.
Terry Aston with 33 net won the Stroke section with Peter Hellery second with 41.
Closest to the pin on the 17th Par went to Terry.
Overall winner today was Terry Aston with 37 Stable ford points.
There will not be an Udon Golf Society Round next Monday, next round will be 23rd June at Srithani 745am tee off.

Ubolrat Friday Round Results 13th June 2014
Hi Guys,
Perfect weather today for our regular Friday round at Ubolrat. Course in good condition and the temperature was more moderate although it was still quite humid.
7 of us teed off including guest Gordon who playing off 28 hccp had a 37 point game although he was not eligible to be in the days competition.
Scores. Terry Aston 36,Jeff Barnes 33,Per Hansen & Denni Price 32,Trevor Edge 26.Peter Hellery 25.
Closest to the Pin on the 4th Hole par 3 Per Hansen.

IFGG RESULTS 18TH JUNE 2014
After experiencing substandard greens at Singha Park yesterday it was refreshing to play our second round today at the Ubolrat Dam course.
We roomed at our local Ubolrat motel last night which was a pleasant change from staying in Khon Kaen.
An early breakfast and a 5 minute drive to the course was less stressful than our normal schedule.
The course was in good condition in spite of quite a lot of overnight rain.
Results today;
Terry Aston 36,Graham Firth 34,Rex individual 33.
Rex also won Closest to the pin on the 12th par 3 hole.
The overall 2day Winner was Graham Firth with 67,Rex individual 65,Terry Aston 64.

Ubolrat Friday round Results 18th July 2014

Eight of us rolled up to play today at Ubolrat in our regular Friday Competition.

Peter Hellery won the day with 37 points, newcomer Paul Samme with 35 points in second place.

Closest to the pin on the two par 3 holes went to Terry Aston and Paul Samee.

As we have our IFGG monthly 2 day event next week in KK on we will not be playing Ubolrat next Friday.

Our IFGG July 2 day Competition concluded today with a round at Dancoon.
Course in terrible condition as it has had heavy rain the past week and as a result the fairways were in bad shape as was the rough with dense growth.
It certainly did not make for good scores as indicated below.
Dancoon Results.
Terry Aston 33 points,Jeff Barnes 32,Rex individual 30,Peter Hellery 29,Chuck Mc Cormick 22, Denni Price 12. (Yes that is correct Denni setting the record for the lowest recorded score ever in an IFGG competition.) To be fair though he was slightly under the weather and to even have competed the day was a testimony to his sporting attitude.
Rex individual won closest to the pin.

Yesterday at Singha Rex individual blitzed the field with 40 points.
Other scores were Terry Aston,Denni Price and Jeff Barnes 31,
Paul Samme 30,Peter Hellery 29,Chuck Mc Cormick 25

Overall Winner for the 2 day Comp was Rex individual with 70 points.
Denni Price got to take home the Crazy Hat and the Wooden Spoon which I am sure will not be won by him in the future.

Udon Golf Society Round at Srithani July 28th 2014
Course very wet today,fairways not being cut represented the rough, and the actual rough was unplayable with up to 2 feet high grass.
Greens though were in the best shape in ages which was encouraging.
Only a few of us in attendance due to the weather but Rex individual 33 points,Bob Strutt 32 and Peter Hellery 31 handled the course quite well.
Rex individual also was closest to the pin on the par 3 hole.

Udon Golf Ubolrat Results 1st August.
8 of us rolled up today to play our regular Friday round at Ubolrat. Once again course in good condition so the very average scores could not be blamed on the course.
It was good to have as a guest Jack Price,Denni;s son join us for the round. A really nice guy and a chip off the old block. Although he made the speed of his Dads swing look very pedestrian compared to his.
Scores. Gordon Uppards 31,Peter Hellery and Denni Price 30,Paul Samme 29,Brian Blackford 28,Jeff Barnes 26.(Terry Aston retired injured at the 3rd)
Closest to the Pin on the par 3 holes went to Paul Samme and Brian Blackford
