No real bad news to report in Udon news today......another drug bust, several slippery road-related accidents, not much else.
On the positive side of things, here's how my day in Udon went:
Udon Optical - stopped by to get new single-vision lenses for my sunglasses. Eye exam and new lenses 400 baht.
Needed a replacement bolt to hold the barguide in my chainsaw (I overtightened the original nut). I expected to go hunting for a new one......found exactly what I needed at Vichai Service (just down from Udon Optical) (วิชีบการขาง).....35 baht.
Hunted for 3/8" gravel (as opposed to standard 3/4" gravel. Lots of stores carry the standard gravel but only one store near Chris's Bar (Harry's) had 3/8" for 600 baht per cu. I went to the supply store at the 4-way intersection in Nongwahsaw.......he called to the quarry.....ordered a big load for me but said it would be delivered in one of those double trailers @450 baht per cu. When I told him a double trailer couldn't get through our gate, he said, "no problem, I'll break it down into two loads in a 6wheel truck" Delivered as promised for 450 baht per cu.
Ate my standard bowl of beef noodle soup at my favorite Vietnamese family owned noodle store (for 13 years) on Srichumchoen Rd....a heaping bowl with plenty of beef, meatballs, a ton of fresh veggies, ice tea and smiles all around. 53 baht.
Tesco Lotus new store - sucked out 40,000 baht from a Bangkok Bank ATM and took the escalator upstairs to put it into Siam Commercial Bank. A clerk met me at the door, asked me what I wanted, and then filled out the deposit slip for me. A double-bank transaction in less than 10 minutes.
Filled up at the big PTT station on the Udon-Nongbualamphu Hwy. A chorus of smiling girls filled me up, cleaned the windshield, and waved me off goodbye. No need for me to get out of the vehicle.
All in all, just another fine day in the neighborhood. Oh yeah, the weather was perfect too!
