Udon's most expensive bar

Things to do and places to see in Udon Thani.

Postby arjay » August 12, 2008, 9:54 pm

As you seem to have moved on to tuk-tuks - samlors etc on this thread (!!!), I was amused when staying in Nong Khai earlier this year with my GF and taking samlors, the guy would invariably say 40 or 60 baht, followed up by 20 baht or 30 baht each.

One day I was seeing my GF off to the bridge on her own, and the samlor driver said - "60 baht, 30 baht each". We said ok 30 baht, she's going on her own! :D

He had to do a lot of back peddling, to try and get back to er -well 40 baht one person!!! I was most amused

Just out of curiosity, did we ever establish what the 'most expensive bar in Udon' actually is??

10 pages later, this thread is about what?

for those actually lazier than me, OP was comparing prices of couple rounds of same drinks, between irish clock, impression, ok for overhead, and orange moon, too expensive when overhead considered, and surprisingly pointing out, cheaper at own establishment.     good marketing, and good observations of pricing and overhead 8) yes, boggles my mind also.

have to agree with OP, that's why my beer consumption is at Irish Clock, very respectable value for what it offers me, to my taste, and about the only other place i sip more than a couple, NM, again, relative to overhead and my expectations and preference of area.

now if a couple of those other places would move closer to town, i'd frequent them also. oh well. SangKaew is about as far as i will go, on the motorbike, for munch and beer. if taking car, the petrol cost as much as the food. TJ's is a weekly stop, about the furthest i go on regular basis. don't even bother with nong khai runs for bailey's if running low (luckily, well stocked), not worth the hassle for Ree to run over. 300 + on fuel w/car, and only saving 500 on a liter bottle. why bother. she won't ride that far on back of motorbike, so scratch that idea, damn.

actually works out good for me, saving my liver, as too cheap to spend more on beer than food. so most are doing me a great favor by being just a tad more than i want to spend on a beverage.

Always bear-in mind you cannot jut consider the price of beer/drinks, eg. the Full Moon (never bin there) I believe puts on a lady show +, is that correct?? If so there has to be a mark up, wot is fair I don't know, suppose it depends on the quality of the show, but again your wallet should do the walkin, if it was good value in your eyes you'll go back! Wazza, will you go back?

Some of the Karaokes can be pretty expensive, when they add on all the little extras, often without you realising.

Firstly larger bottles of beer,
repeat bottles arriving and being opened without you being consulted or noticing,
over-priced buckets of ice or mixers,
an amount for service from the mamasan (I've had that one)
things like extra for a lady to sit with you - charged by the half hour
the lady's drinks
food for the lady
everyone else sharing the large bottle you brought with you (I've had that before too).

Do none of you lot ever treat yourself?

All posters seem to be trying to prove how cheaply they can live here and forgetting the one real reason that you are here....to have fun and have a better standard of life than back at home....

1. Why don't you treat yourself now and again...if only once a month or whatever..

2. Leave the wife at home: :D

3. If at 1st need assistance in putting hand in pocket...go to glyns 1st and drink yourself stupid with his ridiculously low priced menu....(food is good too)

4. Go to the Wolverine Go Go bar and sit right at the front in prime position.

5. Ask yourself, '' have any of these girls got anything my wife has not got''?

6. Really go over board and buy one of them a drink...(Now you are exploring enjoying yourself)

7. Refrain from sleeping with any of them...(If price puts you off go back to no 1.)

8. Go back home and tell your wife all about your night out including the Wolverine experience....tell her you are the boss and I like to have a night out now and again...

9. Now you are either dead or you have a good understanding wife...

10. Plan next months night out....... 8)

Amend to read:

Go back home and tell your wife all about your night out including the Wolverine experience...Jump into bed with her and break wind loudly then tell her you are the boss. Hold her head under the covers untill she passes out and tell her you'd like to have a night out now and again.

That should do the trick, especially if you drink your fill of Guinness during the evening. :guiness:

Wazza, you didn't answer my question, would you go back? the reason I ask is - that is how we (the readers) can determine weather you consider it fair price or over-priced, but cheers for posting the prices.
