this really isn't brain surgery. Cool

LA, your comment "just ask" pre-supposes you know exactly what you want to drink in advance.

Sometimes I like to experiment or try something different. I might have a beer. I might have a Sangsom and coke. I might even try a G&T, a glass of wine, or as an occasional reminder (lest I forget the taste) - an Ameretto, Kahlua or Brandy.

So I like to check out the prices, in case one of the above is particularly competitively priced. I find often they don't have a price list, or don't know where it is, or maybe can't be bothered to look.

It is therefore a bit tedious to have to ask........ How much is xxxxxx? How much is xxxxxxxx? etc - numerous times, particularly if it isn't a Singha beer. The bar girl will invariably enquire... "Alena?", before going off and asking 4 different people, before coming back and telling you. This process then has to be repeated 4 or 5 times, before you can gain a fair picture of what is available and at what price.

Surely, it doesn't require brain surgery for them to have, and present you with a price list/menu!! .....

It's not rocket science. 8) :D :D

I think you guys are making this too complicated. They get this much for these drinks BECAUSE THEY CAN. Simple as that.

did you notice, all recommends were for tiger, except on. if tiger is overpriced, then i might do one chang if priced right, then put my walkin shoes on.

tiger fan, not much else for me. experimenting is usually overpriced, plus beer i can pace myself, 1 per hour, the other stuff, and i'll be checking in.

Places (bars/shops/cafes/used car dealers/massage parlors) who don't clearly display the prices or have a menu available are clip joints. (Not a barber shop) #-o

If we would avoid these rip off joints until they provided a price list, we would all be happier and less stressed out at the end of the night.

I have also noticed in my scientific studies of the sois (SSS) is most if not all of the rip off places are Thai owned.

Yeah I'm a Cheap Charlie and damn proud of it.

To me a Cheap Charlie = Smart shopper..... In spite of what the bar girls will have you believe.

---carry on.....

I must admit there's even been a couple of occasions (one a restaurant, the other a bar) when they've rummaged around and dug up a price list/menu, from which I ordered, and then when I got the 'bin', it showed a higher price.

When challenging it, I got "it's an old/out of date price list"!!

What hope have you got!!

I then have to argue, well that's the one you gave me, and that's the one I ordered from, and that's what I"ll be paying, - type of thing! :? #-o

Agreed they may view things differently. Well we dug that out just to show you what we had available, - it doesn't mean it's at the price in the price list!!!! In fact that may have been borrowed from another establishment!

almost had that happen at sabai sabai on way to night market. i ordered a beer of new menu, ree enquired about, then ordered mixed drink of same menu. i stated that seemed like a decent price for that, and informed that price is wrong, about 40% more. not thanks, cancel that, one beer, not tip, never returned.

old menu, not problem, i have old baht. 8)

I suppose their reasoning behind it is we do not need a menu to look at trivial things like prices... I mean we are all rich right?

Ever tried telling a Thai you are not really that rich? They just laugh and you might as well tell them the one about the hooker and the koala bear. Cue Oasis: You gotta roll with it.

I'm seeing 8 members of U2 in my avatar... Damn these are strong.

Picture yourself in a boat on a river,
With tangerine trees and marmalade skies
Somebody calls you, you answer quite slowly,
A girl with kaleidoscope eyes.

Cellophane flowers of yellow and green,
Towering over your head.
Look for the girl with the sun in her eyes,
And she's gone.

A chalk board would be handy in each bar listing the most common drinks and their prices.

The Irish Clock has a drinks menu with prices and a separate food menu.
I think the chalk board is OK for the "spittoon" serving bars but not a better class pub.

Following Lee's suggestion and the chalkboard could include the "common" bar's bar fine and long and short time prices

In the UK it is compulsory to display both the measure size and the price per shot on all the optics. Not much good knowing the price of a whiskey without knowing the size

IMO You don't need to be a "spittoon" pub to display a colourful and creative chalk board.

IMO it will not only increase sales of the lesser known drinks i.e. cocktails, smoothies, non-alcoholic etc but will also give the customer an idea of how much they're likely to pay.
