Udon's Tin Houses

Postby stattointhailand » February 23, 2010, 11:20 am

Anyone read the article in the Bangkok Post at the weekend re Udon's Prostitution.
There are rumours that photo's are being taken of people in "the soi's", so anyone visiting should be very careful.

I would have thought that taking photos in that area would be a very dangerous occupation .

Not really an expose. I have lived here for over 8 years and knew about these places long ago . Why we even had a forum topic on it and they were even shown on Udon Map with a red flag indicating where they were .In that time we have had , to my knowledge, three police chiefs, they get closed for a short time, then gradually reopen. Even police chiefs are disposable when the stakes are high enough . Whilst not condoning child exploitation in any way,it is for the most part a Thai/Thai/Laos affair . I am however concerned at the cross reference in the same article mentioning and picturing the Day & Night and referring to the farang clients .To the best of my knowledge there has never been an underage age girl working in any bar there and although I don't frequent the place, I very much doubt that the clients who do would entertain for one minute any bar that tried going down this road .

Trubrit, you say that you don't frequent the place, after a comment like "To the best of my knowledge there has never been an underage age girl working in any bar there" ...........
Well I only visit D & N on the rare occations that I have to play pool there, so I'm not in a position to agree or dissagree about the bars in D&N, but I can assure you that there HAVE been underage girls working in Farang run bars in Udon, and the management have known that they were well underage

By the way, I agree that it's not really an expose, but it's more bad press that will be read by the Patters Pedo's.

Why does it pain the UM faithful if a farang frequents the houses of ill repute but they're perfectly complacent to acknowledge Thais frequenting the same environs with nary a blink?

Reeks of extreme hypocrisy to me.

This is a farang forum, and thus we tend to focus on matters (in Thailand) which effect farangs.

If Thais or farangs want to frequent brothels, that is up to them.

I have seen nothing thus far where any of the posters have displayed pain on that subject.

If you are referring to the sub theme of the story ie child prostitution, please point out where in the 2 threads running concurrently where any of us has displayed complacency.

Based on some of your earlier contributions, you would seem to have a PhD in hypocrisy Tex. However, I am not sure you are clever enough to have achieved a PhD (Extreme).

Is there a guide available to farangs to navigate those sticky situations we ought not be party to?
Like building a fence using illegal workers?
Or paying a bribe to policemen?
Or working without a permit?

Get over yourself, high and mighty idiot. This is Thailand,. It ain't Manchester or Souf'ampton or wherever you came from. (Perf, yeah)

If underage prostitution is immoral or illegal or intolerable, it's not because of farangs. Open your eyes and take in that which surrounds you.

Get a grip.

It would seem neither comprehension nor geography are your strong suites.

But....rail on!

Seems it's only an issue when a newspaper reports farangs involved.

To me that's hypocrisy in the extreme.

Tex, as I see it, the main problem with this article, is that it was printed in an ENGLISH LANGUAGE newspaper.
If it had been written in thai in a Thai newspaper, it would not have been a concern.
The Thai's know that the "houses of ill repute" exist in EVERY small town and most hamlets as well. Many farang do not consider anywhere beyond the environs of Patters and Bangkok as having a "sex trade", and articles like this, unfortunately, will open the eyes of some, which will only be bad for the rest of Thailand.
I for one (and I am sure that many others on here would agree), do not condone under age sex whether it be with Thai or Farang, or whether the girl was Thai or Laos, and articles such as this will only advertise the fact that it is available to a wider audience.

Hi statto, good post and i totally agree with what you wrote, these articles often have the possibly desired effect of increasing trade to said establishments from people who where not aware that they existed in the first place wether it be through some sense of interest or curiosity.I like many others on here would never condone underage activities and i think anyone caught doing so should have the same operations that they give to young bullocks to stop them being a nuisance....up the toon! :D
