Glyn - just a point - the guidelines allow teams to send the results to me up to and until midday on the Thursday following the Tuesday matches - If all results are in, then I will send them to you on a Wednesday - but please bear in mind that I have to give the teams until the allotted time, so I may not send them to you until Thursday p.m.

The food issue for me is no problem - I eat the food of my own choice before 7pm. I, for one, am more interested in a game of pool and a few drinks and a laugh than getting something out of it cos 'I am only drinking at so and so bar because of the pool league'. All things can be changed, however, and if the consensus of opinion is that food should be served then so be it - I am only the administrator, not the catering organiser, so if changes are deemed necessary, someone please pick up the baton and start running with it to get things organized!

Cueball,

As mentioned before, it's not the cost of the food that is the problem for me, it's the fact that there is none available in some of the bars. Where a bar sells food anyway, I am quite happy to buy from the menu.
The only solution that I can see for those that don't provide food, is the take away option, either from a menu provided by the food producing bar, or a set order (cheese or ham baguette etc;) which can be pre arranged and delivered/collected during the evening, with each player paying say B50 towards the cost. I'm sure that the food providing bar (especially if they are in the league anyway) will not want to overcharge for the food, as they too want the league to survive/expand in the future, and lost teams due to lack of facilities would not be good for them either.
In the mean time, would it be possible for someone to post a list of which bars intend to provide food/have food available, and which ones do not.

Any chance of getting "Provisional" results posted on the forum, with the proviso that they have not been checked, and therefore may need to be adjusted when the official forms are submitted. I am quite happy to post any that I know on Tues night/Wed (depending on whether I've been drinking on an empty stomach or not :drunk: )

I don't think the food will be a cost issue, it really is a minor expense compared the previous seasons, when it was food for all + between 10-12 free drinks for the players, now that was a burden. Why don't all players at each venue next tuesday take 5 mins out and take a vote on it, then the captians give feed back to cue-ball and we go with the majority.

As for posting a list of bars supplying, not supplying, I don't think they'll want to commit themselves. As I posted earlier FGs put food on last week but maybe George will sum up the night's takings and not want to bother the following week :-k :-k

I didn't get a chance to speak to anyone at OM on Tues, but I know that Noot had probs last year, due to her having to cook food, and get it in place before heading off to play for her team. This was then made worse by the fact that sometimes the freeloaders/balloon chasers helped themselves, and left the food to get cold before we had our food break.

Glyn -good idea to ask all the players -only problem being that, as far as I can see, only 3 or 4 players/captains are aware of this thread on the forum - either that, or they are reading and not taking an active part in the discussion! I really don't think there is an easy answer to this situation (other than carrying on the way we are currently). Bring your own sandwich? Send out for food? eat before you arrive? Buy from the bar you are playing at(if they sell food)? Don't eat? Several options, but at the end of the day, as far I am concerned, it is a night out to play pool and have a couple of beers - I can organise my own food with no effort on my part. I would hate to think that some of the bars would drop out of the league if we enforced a 'must supply food' rule - it may not happen of course, but I would rather not push it - I have no easy answer to the issue, just my opinion!

Statto - thanks for your input. The fact that some bars do not have food available really should not be too much of an issue - maybe during the 20 minutes or so between the three matches that are played before you are due to play again, you could pop out and get yourself a baguette (or ask one of the young ladies to go and get for you - most of them are very obliging!) I also note the problems that Noot had - I rest my case Milord!!

I have been asked on several occasions if the results can be posted earlier than they are currently - the simple answer is -no. A deadline of midday on the Thursday following Tuesdays matches has been given to allow captains to contact me - therefore results may not be available until after that time. If all results are in earlier, I will of course send them to Glyn so he can update them on his website. If anyone wants a more detailed view, I produce an excel spreadsheet with individual scores on - feel free to contact me and I will send you personal updates as soon as they are officially confirmed. e;mail - udonpool@hotmail.com

on a personal note - maybe I would be better sticking to the administration of the pool league rather than playing in it! So far this season I have failed to win a game ! Maybe the pressures of trying to keep everyone happy is getting to me :-({|= . Never mind - I still enjoy the company and a few beers. We have now passed the three match stage and things seem to be settling in well - mostly! Owners/ Captains - please ensure your team members are familiar with the rules - they should be posted in all bars - and there ought to be be no reason for heated discussions over the rules - they are clear, concise and simple.

Can anyone stop them there devils?

A new bar, new name, and a table that is certainly playing differently than when it was in the Aussie Pub, but still they are top again
Even one of the pre-season favorites Mollies Boys could only manage to take 4 frames off an under strength YD team. :yikes:
What hope is there for the rest of us? Are we playing for second place already?
PA 1 and the Wanderers are still unbeaten, but can either sustain a serious challenge? 8-[

Result of the week has to be Jingjoes, who after back to back losses in the first two matches, stormed back to beat the previously unbeaten One Stars 12 - 3 on their own table =D>

Can Cueball register his first point of the season? [-o<
Can Mollies Boys turn the tables on the Devils? :-k

Stay tuned for next weeks enthraaaawling episode of THE UDON POOL LEAGUE same time same channel

STT, cheers for that upbeat report, its nice to here how others are doin, rather than just seeing a figure on a score sheet.

MBs deserved all they got on Tuesday, but still the other teams need to be warned, the table at ABTF is sloping towards the centre so any slow shots up the cussions (from any side) will drift off course, my table at The Retreat has warped in a similar fashion. Pockets are tight so if you only pracitce on American style tables you're at a disadvantage, go find yourself a bar with a snooker style table just before your night at ABTF, or better still go and practice on theirs a few days prior. In all fairness though the YDs are a very good team, and i think they practice way more than the limits adviced by the W.H.O. but all the more reason to prepare yourselves better than my lager-louts did on Tuesday.

Any more reports??

I have a practice game or five there at least 3 or 4 times a week. Perhaps I should increase my training prog to 6 or 7 nights a week? :guiness:

I am asuming that the idea is to expand the league in future seasons, and bring in some of the bars that currently do not compete. It's just an idea, but how about a cup competition later in the season, with all the league teams plus maybe 4 other bars entering a team. It would give the non league teams a chance to see what it is like, whilst not having to commit to playing 20+ games.
A one off match, drawn from the hat (bit like FA Cup), would only mean a max of 4 extra games for the finalists, and each match could be played at anytime on a set week.
