Ingenious!

Re. glass on the wall top.
Not much good, I think. All you need is a hammer and a blanket and you can safely climb over. There are quiet ways to break down the glass too.

I don't recall ever seeing flood lights with PIRs on or around any properties we've stayed in. I think they're a pretty good (safe) way to prevent opportunists entering the grounds as who wants to be lit up for all & sundry to see

A couple of good dogs are the best option, although if they really want in they will poison the dogs.

Unfortunately this does happen if somebody really wants to get at you or your possessions, it would be a heartbreaking warning that something is about to happen .... we always keep one dog inside at nights and he would need to be shot dead to stop him tearing intruders to pieces ,, the slightest strange noise outside and just his bark is enough to scare most away..

This is one of the reasons the Thais have so many yappy dogs, they are like mini walking burglar alarms

Folks living on the SW ring road may be interested in a police report concerning a large number of thefts in that area, to include Maliwan and the Ban Chang areas. It's in Thai and I'm on vacation, so long haired translators will be required.

My German Shepherds were trained only to eat on command and would not sit and drool while waiting not hard to teach to any smart dog.

poison/sedating dart will do the job ....i have learned never to take any notice of these burglar reports , if they want to break in they will do so ...bad luck if it is your home , we have been living 12 years baan noak in a small village and never had any rebar in front of our windows , i do not want to sit in jail , but everyone in the village knew , no money or gold in home us ...and we do not show off or feel any better as the local people ....if you know what i mean ....
never have had any problems , it is now in udon city my wife does not really feel safe and i will put some stainless jail bars in front of our 5 window new home (+2small br windows) , so she can be at ease , we also have 2, 12point lock iron doors....and 2 dogs to make noise if needed (that is all a dog can contribute) ... ;)

5 or 6 geese are the best alarm system.

According to the article, the incident happened on Soi Non Pu Tong in Ban Jan. Police found a front window had been forced open. The 67 year old British fellow and his 61 year old wife had celebrated Christmas st their home the previous evening with relatives. Some alcohol was served (not much). Around 1:00am everyone went to sleep. The husband got up around 4am and noticed items missing. The man's wife has a purse set out in the living room and a 2 baht gold necklace, a half baht gold ring a 2 baht gold bracelet and 3000 baht were among items missing. An ipad and two mobile phones were also missing. Some items were also missing from the sofa ?Christmas presents? valued at 100,000 baht.

As I pointed out on a earlier comment on this post.we will see a rise in this sort of crime and farangs will be the target as we all have big money and gold in the eyes of the Thais.we are easy pickings and without a police force.thais have now been educated about all the goodies of life through the media and want it fast and for nothing.we will see the greater rise in crime in the city first then over the years spreading to the rural areas, just like the western world.i looked the other day and Thailand has nearly four times the number of prisoners as the uk which I was very suprised to see.now they have let masses of them out with a Kings pardon,so expect crime to escalate even more.we must learn to be more vigilant and secure our property and our families and of course our own lives that are as cheap as a soi dogs.i have 20 night lights around my property on throughout the night (20x5 watt led's) a movement detector light,7ft walls,3 cameras a secret safe that will be concreted into the floor as soon as the builders have gone.2 panic alarm/flashing lights and a dog.most of all I don't live in a high crime rate area of a city.the other thing is I don't have 4 1/2 baht of gold and 100,000 baht of Xmas presents to steal.once again I ask how much has this last rich farang spent on security?

This sounds awfully similar to another well publicised foreign-house robbery a year or so ago..
Again while people were << asleep>> in the house.
