Updating Xbox Offline

Just thought I'd share this. Apologies if I'm teaching you how to suck eggs.

To update your Xbox without connecting to the internet (useful if your box has been "modded")
Follow the instructions here. Basically download the file and extract the contents to the root of a USB stick or CD/DVD.

I updated mine this morning and I can now play divx and avi files I have downloaded. Plus the interface has been changed dramatically.

Happy gaming!

Hey, keep them eggs coming! I wonder if it will affect 'future' upgrade mods if you upgrade? I know that the new firmware upgrades for PS3 will keep them from being modded or so the modders say.
Hit 'em hard, hit 'em fast, hit 'em with the one they don't expect, and just keep hitting.

I checked that also. Apparently some of the updates can stop games like Call of Duty from working. No problem, tested my copy today and it's working fine. Where are you getting games locally? Directions please as I'm useless with Udon town :)

There is a small stall at Robinsons up on the top floor, probably more, but I only deal with one of them and there is a shop close to Robinson's. As you exit the underground parking and travel out to the road, turn left and about 400 meters on the left is another gameing store. Sorry, I don't know street names and don't know Udon all that much. I only go into town when it is Sat night and I have five dollars to spend....

WARNING. Although I said this worked. 2 days later I can no longer play my backed up games. A hunt on the internet reveals that the firmware for the Xbox's DVD drive has been overwritten and will no longer read backups.

Anyone know where I can get my Xbox "modded" in Udon? It was done in Phuket last time. :(

The rule of thumb I have always heard regarading a 'modded' box is that one must never udate firmware or do anything to the box. For all pratical purposes, it is only a gaming box as configured when you mod it. Guess that is the trade off for modding it in the first place. See my above post, there are several places where you can get your mods updated. Should run you about 350 to 400 baht. If you need more detailed directions, PM me and I can get the wife to help me be more specific on locations.

Normally I wouldn't have bothered for exactly the reason you state. But I needed to enable AVI, MKV, WMA playback on the box and flashing was the only way to do it. Nowhere online did it mention I wouldn't be able to play backups.
You live and you learn :)
I'll take a look around the stalls in the complex today. Cheers!

The Games shop just after Steve's Bar heading away from the Complex might be worth a visit.
They repair & upgrade games consuls.

I tried the update from the Xbox support website and it did the same to my Xbox and can no longer play backup games :(

Here's a map to the games shop near the complex, updates are around 350 Baht and take around 45 minutes to do and the latest games are around 60 - 80 Baht, double if they have 2 disks, the phone number is: 042221868

Sorry about my bad tip :(
If it makes you feel any better, I went to X-Game beside Stevie's Bar. They re-updated it for me, but they had to take it to Bangkok, took 5 days and cost 700 bht. A costly mistake. Their games are all 60bht per disk. Some games have multiple disks.

On the plus side. My Xbox Dashboard is now bang up to date. And I learnt how to mod them myself. Easy if you have a desktop PC with onboard SATA and the software which is widely available online.
