The matter has been sorted out with the minimum of fuss and expense, now we have to deal with the damage to the car.
While I agree a legal route through a civil suit is desirable, knowing the Thai system it would be a long time coming.

The fact that the person concerned is miffed at having to pay for his car, should be mitigated by the fact he himself decided to downgrade his insurance to Number 3.

You can understand why, if money was the problem and judging by his personal health bill, I am not surprised.

Many people here do not have the luxury of having a pot of money to rely on, but some do, how a person manages his/her finances is up to them of course and getting into name calling etc over this is juvenile and counter-productive.
Kopkei, thankyou fro bringing this problem to the forum and asking for help, hopefully we have achieved our aims and judging by the outcome we succeeded. have a happy new year.

I liked your summary Wazza and your understanding that everyones situation is not the same and for those that have less, the sudden problems dealing with ageing, rapid inflation and currency exchange rates cause people to make decisions that might not be in their long term interest!

Everyone makes mistakes in their life even though they may not be lazy ,thinking they understand what is best at that time.

What ever their reasons might be for making these decisions is really incidental to that moment, many do the same thing, are lucky'',never suffering, others suffer, hopefully everyone survives and lessons are learned.

Very few,not idiots or unintelligent guys, unaware of their arro0gance, have come here really understanding the culture, the country, the people or the consequences of putting your heart on your sleeve! Some have suffered horrendous financial losses, some medium losses and some were extremely lucky sufferingt no financial loss for those mistakes.I am one of the lucky ones in that regard even though I made many of the mistakes!

I don't think it is fair,to chastise those that were either not prepared(the overwhelming majority,IMO and experience)or make comments that have no sympathy or empathy in their context, when some asks for help!

I know Kopkei and believe him to be an honorable, helpful, sincere, nice person!English is not his native tongue and if someone is trying to read into his posts an unfriendliness, they are wrong, because it isn't there!

Our opinions about this accident situation is what was sought, not the opinions about the right, desire or proper preparation for living here!

Hopefully the ''older man'' will come out of this OK,if not fully satisfied, being able to be married 30 years,is a whole lot better than most of us have done!So I am sure there are things that we could give him credit for, even as we see his human errors! :D

Happy New Year,Y'all \:D/

Yesterday,I was riding my M/C wife on the back.
Stopped at traffic lights on red. When at green, 6 vehicles charged through red light!
Waited about 10 seconds before could go!(count 10 sec)! Its not the waiting, just so dangerous.
I blew my horn at them at least let them know they at fault.
Wife has a go at ME! " Why you do?" " Here Thailand"
Yes Here Thailand !
Two days ago, 24 died and 426 injured....in one day.

I agree the death rate here is horrendous, I really would like the stats to show how many deaths were due to motorcycles and how many of those were either the fault of the motorcycle rider , being stupid or drunk. Then and only then would we see the big picture and they ( The Govt ) might do something about it.
near my friends village a 14 year old boy was killed due to the fact he could not control the m/cycle he was riding having hit a man who was so drunk he couldn't drive straight in his tuck.
RIP young man but unfortunately the laws in this country are partly to blame for your demise and the so-called tolerance of Thai Culture both conspire against well meaning sensible folk.

Take care out there people .

 Maybe one needs an engrained belief in reincarnation,to treat this life so contemptiously.I am always amazed at the ''faith'' Thais seem to show for the oncoming drivers, yet many live in fear for safety relative to confrontation!
