I understand that in Arizona (where the shootings occurred) concealed hand guns may be carried without any form of permit.

Another thumbs up for the US gun laws.

That's one of the sad things about this Stan - the whole rationale of the (crazy) gun laws appears to be based on something that happened nearly 250 years ago.

On this issue at least, you would have hoped a country could have grown up and developed rational laws in the intervening period.

Here you go misinformed one:

Arizona does not require a permit to purchase firearms. Carrying a concealed weapon requires a permit.

Perhaps all these publications, inter alia, missed your information, papa.

PHOENIX — Favoring the constitutional right to bear arms over others' concerns about gun safety, Gov. Jan Brewer on Friday signed into law a bill making Arizona the third state allowing people to carry a concealed weapon without requiring a permit.

The measure takes effect 90 days after the current legislative session ends, which likely puts the effective date in July or August.

Starting later this summer, U.S. citizens 21 and older can begin carrying a concealed firearm without a permit in Arizona.

Gov. Jan Brewer signed Senate Bill 1108 into law Friday afternoon. It eliminates the requirement for a concealed-carry weapons permit, but does require gun owners to accurately answer if an officer asks them if they are carrying weapon concealed. It also allows officers to temporarily confiscate a weapon while they are talking to an individual, including during a traffic stop.

Arizona concealed weapons bill expected to become law

* April 9th, 2010 10:51 am PT

Within the next week, Arizona could become the first state with a large urban population to allow U.S. citizens to carry a concealed firearm without a permit throughout the state of Arizona. Only Alaska and Vermont have similar laws.

The Arizona House voted Thursday to make the state the third in the nation to allow people to carry concealed weapons without a permit, sending the governor a bill that would allow Arizonans to forego background checks and classes that are now required.

Like many responsible citizens of the US, I have a concealed handgun permit and I carry a Ruger 357 magnum in a shoulder holster when I am in Oklahoma.....The requirements to get this permit are quite rigid...requiring a lot of class work, testing, background checks and proficiency with the weapon...

Permit holders are very responsible people...the ones that carry weapons without a permit are the ones that are normally a problem...

I just wonder why would normal people (going about their normal day to day business) carry guns, concealed or otherwise! Though I guess that's another story.

What with immigration problem in AZ and the failure of the current administration to do anything about it, the Gov had to resort to such legislation in order for her citizens to protect themselves from drug/human smugglers.

But as you say, that's another story...

Yes wazz - there was not much to like about John Howard, but the gun law reforms (and GST) will probably be remembered as his greatest legacy.

People using guns , kill people.

The gun discharges a bullet travelling at fast speed and into your body, creating an entry point which then expands inside your body , ripping blood vessels, tearing nerves, rupturing organs and causing burns , as well as expanding gasses causing major tissue swelling.

This generates blood loss, and if severe will lead to severe dropping of BP, hypoxia and ultimately death.

Not sure how a person creates that
