Valentines day in Udon .

I normally like to take my sweet valentine out for a meal on 14th Feb but am disappointed the Centra Hotel where we normally go , is not holding a special romantic evening this year .Anyone have some other ideas?

Hi Pomps . You have a remarkable memory. Yes last year I celebrated not only Valentines day but you may also remember its my birthday as well, at the roof top restaurant at the Prajaktra Hotel . It is truly a romantic setting, dining under the stars with a tremendous view across the beautiful Nong Prajak park, combined with excellent food served by candlelight, whilst being serenaded in English by the resident group and singer. Last year however I had Farang guests who appreciated, as I did, the romance of the occasion, but I am not so sure the Thai guests did . This year as my guests are exclusively Thai I am looking for something more to their liking, still romantic but with a bit more audience participation, which they seem to prefer. Yes , I know Karaoke. I hate it, but the night is not just about me its a chance to say thank you for their friendship throughout the year as well . Hence my request for suggestions. The Centra would I think have been ideal had they had a special night but alas it wasn't to be .

ot's just nailed a job earning a bit of dosh, so I'mgonna neglect my duties there and fly into udon for valentines day to spoil my teeluk.

Hey Trubrit, want to try something different? Try "giving back". Have you ever gone to a real Mexican birthday party? The Birthday person gives YOU a present. This blew me away years ago. So poor, but so generous! They say, Thankyou for celebrating with me"!
Want to impress your lady? Reserve some place or "hole in the wall" she loves or has good food. Invite all her and your friends and enjoy the night together as friends. And ask the local venders to bring their som tom, stick chicken, ect, to your place. They will love it.

TB i remembered your writeup before.Best option would be give Centara a go just for staying the night and ask the Thais for options in town via taxi.Surely they would enjoy the VIP Karaoke rooms downstairs at the Centara

Looks like the Centara it will be . No where else seems to be doing anything special for the day. Will start off with a buffet, either Chinese or International then the more sedate(read, older) amongst us will settle for listening to the Filipino group in the piano lounge then the more adventurous, mostly the ladies will shoot across the road later to Tawan Daeng to let their hair down until later . Possibly as the name implies, until the red sun rises. So much for my dreams of romance, guess those days are long gone.

Come on now, romance will never die in your heart. As long as you have a breath to breathe, you will always be a romantic.

WeeManMaek....is a good place to be if you want to entertain your Thai friends or family.
