Vanity license plates

Postby parrot » November 28, 2011, 8:39 pm

The proud owner of the กน999 Udon license plate plucked down a mere 1,400,000 Baht for the opportunity to show his vanity. A New Yorker could buy a 999DDC license plate for a $91.......most all 50 states offer vanity plates at $100 or less.
The กน1111 winner in this week's Udon auction paid a mere 720,000 Baht.
My lunch calculator says that you could buy 28,000 bowls of noodle soup and have plenty of change to spare for that 1,400,000 Baht. Of course, no one would pay any attention to you sitting at a noodle stand eating a 40 baht bowl of soup.

The last four license plate auctions in Udon yielded 10.6 million, 13.6 million, 15.3 million, and 16.4 million Baht each. The funds are used to help prevent road accidents (I'm biting my tongue). Although the article doesn't mention it, the funds are also used to help the handicapped (not sure if they mean 'handicapped from accidents' or not).

Supposedly was a lady who bought it,number plate 9999 not 999,same lady who bought number 5, a supposed well known house builder here in Udon. :-k
Most of the prices were up from the last auction,a couple of years back, maybe they think there will not be another one for many more years to come.
