I find this fascinating. Upon return from 6 months TDY deployment in an SF "A"-Team camp southwest of Pleiku, Vietnam; we were not allowed to join the American Legion Club in Okinawa. Reason, "Had not served in a combat zone."
I am, despite having missed every meeting in the past ten years or so, a life member of the Udon VFW. Tommy was quite an arm twister.
