Can anyone give info on whether the new riverbank construction has finished yet?

Yes, as of my trip in late March 2011, the walkway and military shrine are all complete. It's all very clean and well done, but it looks very sterile and barren, at least during the dry season. Still, I love Vientiane as an easy getaway, and during the rainy season the river will be much more visible. Take care.

It will be even better when all the proposed casinos, nightclubs, and hotels get finished, we will have a place like Macau on our doorstep.
