Propose to a Thai woman !?

How do Thai propose to their woman, what custom is due ?

Like to know and also like to know how we farangs have done it.
Love to hear your stories about how you did it.

What is expected from the man and how to do it ?
In West, we go down on our knee, a small diamond ring and so on....

Besides money of course....that I have learned from others.

If you've got a healthy bank account you won't need to worry. They'll propose to you.

Otherwise, you could try the Australian custom of:

'Whaddyareckonwegetmarried?'

Whatever you feel most comfortable with, but be aware of the possible pitfalls beyond simply popping the question.

Keep your heels dug in for as long as possible...then when you've finally had enough of your girl asking/hinting/nagging for you to get married just say 'Chai chai ok okayyy or Nahhhh.

Depends on your definition of marriage, which I will say is COMPLETELY different to the Thai definition.
Thai's link marriage to living together after a time, and the actual ceremony is icing on the cake, whether a village affair or an Amphur marriage.
It is something to be aware of and viewed not through rose tinted glasses but with eyes wide open and brain in full working order.
Just a personal viewpoint, which highlights that a proposal is not as clear cut as in the western world.
it has been mooeted by a national english paper that marriage is a way to better health. Ummmmm.

The basic idea is, if you know her already, is to talk with her mother and ask her how much money she wants.

Sorry if this seems crass, but that's the way it is.

Of her mother isn't living (as a folk hero once said, "If marrying in Thailand, marry an orphan"), then it much simpler - ask her directly if she would like to be with you for the rest of your natural lives.

Well guys......

Well,well,well, lot of replies, I am sure I will have a lot to go through
in due time.
Short true story :

Visit a friend of a friend the other week.
Man, now 70, married a 30 something, took her to Sweden 6 years
ago with her 2 sons.
She left him after a while, left her 2 Thai sons with him, they did
not want to stay with the mother.
He turned out to be a good stepfather.
She is happy here and got a payed house back in Thailand.....
The kidds forgetting their mother tung and happy here...
The man back with his old before wife, not so happy...

An other couple turned up, man 70. wife 26, 2 kidds together.
1st mans Thai wife turned up for dinner.....
Good looking and I got the eye

Talk about gamblers, right.
The funny thing about it, no hard feelings around the table

Anyway, looking forward to make my life in Thailand soon and
perhaps meet one or 2 of the guys on this forum that I find very
maak informativ in regards to what to do or not to do.
