Re: Arrrogance or Ignorance?
They park the same way in USA, seen that all the time. They are afraid to get their paint scratched...hehehe I have seen where they had a nice big key scratch along the side of the car by an irate person too.

I vote Arrogance. It's an Audi. The driver didn't want anyone parking close enough to bang their doors into it.

Re: Arrrogance or Ignorance?
Didn't work. Just after I took the photo a Thai guy in a beat-up old pick-up parked alongside the passenger side of the TT, with driver's side of the pick-up well into to the Audi's parking space.Mr Natural wrote:I vote Arrogance. Arrogance!!!!
Re: Arrrogance or Ignorance?
Arrogance with a mix of stupidity and showing off.
personally I would not park my new Audi there rather where most people do not park.

Re: Arrrogance or Ignorance?
Ignorance...was it a women driving..? (joke... for all the ladys reading)
Nahhh arrogance really and didn't want parking dents, done similar myself before but that was laziness just swung in a space and couldn't be arsed to straighten up, as long as there was plenty of empty spaces can't see what the problem would be...and a very impractical vehicle for Issan nowhere to put the large family.

Re: Arrrogance or Ignorance?
im really amazed why they dont angle the parking bays to match the one way systems in these car parks . seems so logical to me , it would be so easy to park, and reverse out, even thais could do it !!!!!!!

Re: Arrrogance or Ignorance?
Good thinking Saint, just an oversight on Tesco's part i think, how many times do you see people having trouble getting in and out with pick ups when the carpark is crammed with cars.
Re: Arrrogance or Ignorance?
Neither, practical.
The parking spaces at Tesco are much too small. I regularly ignore them and park so that I have enough room to get into and out of my car. Tesco doesn't care about their customers' cars or security they just want to squeeze as many cars in as possible.

Re: Arrrogance or Ignorance?
not just tescos B M . every car park ive been to in thailand has parking bays at 90 degrees to the roadway . with a truck 5 metres long and not good turning circle, even though the triton 4x4 is better than some its hard work .made even harder if the guy the other side doesnt pull all the way in and leaves less space to turn.
Re: Arrrogance or Ignorance?
People can be so jealous. For years I worked as a mechanic in a European
specialty shop. Sometimes I would need to take a customer's 911 out for
a little spin to make sure everythings okay. Driving like a grandma mind
you, the amount of attention, usually negative is unbelievable. People will
go out of their way to ding, scratch, inflict damage, whatever. I'll stick with
my toyota corolla. Nobody looks twice or could care what I do. That said,
general parking etiquette here is sometimes arrogant and offensive.

Re: Arrrogance or Ignorance?
It's understandable but, still, arrogance.
Worst places to park your car? Tesco's and Big C on weekends or Thai holidays unless you get there real early. Parking attendants at Index "try" to direct you to park in close quarters with other parked cars but I usually am good at ignoring them. They take it well with good humor and politeness when I tell them I'm too old to park in that spot.
Best places? Home Pro almost anytime, IMO. Hardly ever crowded parking unless they're running a car auction. The new Ngee Soong also almost anytime.
Parking across from Charoensri Mall used to be a bear on weekends but doesn't seem so bad since they bombed that area.

Re: Arrrogance or Ignorance?
Arrogance.
If I was that concerned about my car, I'd park far away from the others and walk a bit further, but that makes too much sense.

Re: Arrrogance or Ignorance?
It seems then, that some Thais get as narked as Farangs do about bad parking.jackspratt wrote:Just after I took the photo a Thai guy in a beat-up old pick-up parked alongside the passenger side of the TT, with driver's side of the pick-up well into to the Audi's parking space.
I reckon a girl parked that TT. I can't believe a bloke would leave his vehicle like that, it's just asking for trouble, as illustrated in the quote above.
Re: Arrrogance or Ignorance?

Yes, I suppose that's one of the attractions of LOS for Farangs, being able to drink and drive - until you kill someone.astrid wrote:Did not anyone out here on the forum wake up

Re: Arrrogance or Ignorance?
the changs got a good point, how many do you see abandoned about 3 feet from the kerb in town , bloking the traffic ?????
Re: Arrrogance or Ignorance?
I used to park my pickup like that all the time in Houston as it was a 4x4 and whenever I opened the doors, they would ding any regular sized car way above any factory 'rubbing strips' they had. I only ever had one woman come up and complain and when I pointed out that I was being thoughtful and considerate of smaller cars like hers, she grudgingly accepted.
But the parking slots are a tad tight here, just like the ones in the UK so most drivers dive in head-first, leaving the arse end in the next bay.
