Hospice Care - Urgent Help Needed Please

Post by Bangyuk » April 21, 2014, 4:44 pm

My wife is a lot sicker than I thought. She has terminal cancer and is in the final stages. True to form, hospitals in Udon have refused to admit her.

Her family are relatively well off and well educated, so I know they are doing their best. I'm on my way on the first flight I can get. But do any of you know of any place in Thailand where they will at least give her palliative care?

Horrible time for me. we were only married for three years. Truly the love of my life.

If necessary please DM me.

Thanks

Ian

A friend of our died recently......cancer.....spent a few of his final weeks at Sri Nakarin hospital......part of the Khonkaen University campus. A full-time staffed semiprivate (4), ac room with modern equipment will run you around 10k a day. Karen Welker is the international rep at the hospital. Phone 091-054-0302. The hospital does not allow families to bunk out in the rooms and visits are limited to visiting hours. But the quality of care was quite good for the terminally ill.

I believe there is a place on the southern part of the ring road (between NaDee and Khon Kaen Rd.) that does home care. Maybe someone knows of it.

It's possible they do....but when I stopped by there a few years ago, I wasn't much impressed with the facilities. But it might be worth checking.

I have found reference to "Udon Thani Regional Cancer Center" on the web, but no address or contact details, has anyone there got more information on this?

That is possibly referring to the specialist cancer hospital which is located virtually next door to the vehicle licensing center (The purple palace) about 20k out on the KK road.
Ageing is a privilige denied to many .

Udon Thani Regional Cancer Center - it is the place just down (south) of the driver's license place....about 20km from the center of Udon.

You could try calling John or Kurt, the international reps at Bangkok Hospital (Udon) and inquire about their services. John's number is 042-343-111, ext. 1719. You can ask the op at 042-343-111 for Kurt's number.

I am truly sorry for your situation, however despite this, and having had a couple of friends suffering and passing on due to the illness, there is unfortunately no actual pallitive care provider, in fact getting a doctor out to administer basic pain killer ( morphine is almost non existent, he ended up being given morphine tabs. His girl-friend did the rest. I beliee that either the Military Hopsital o rUdon general would have taken him in, but I am really unsure. despite this country being modern and progressive in health care, they are still unable to provide hospice care that is acceptable. The only other way would be to seek a nurse who would provide some of the time to give the family a rest.

Sorry cannot be more helpful.

Thanks Kuhn Paul. If she improves I think I might try to persuade family to take her back to the superb sri raj hospital in bangkok.

Very sorry to hear of your wifes illness.....
I think it is possible to hire a nurse offering 24 hour day care in the home of the patient costing between 500-800 baht per nurse daily depending on the type of care required and daily hours required.
If I were you I would contact the Udon Hospital and/or the Military Hospital to see what care is available.
Although the hospital in Bangkok would,no doubt, provide good care, the long journey from Udon could prove quite harrowing for her if she is in a lot of pain.....just a thought, anyway.
Just when I thought our chance had passed, you go and save the best for last.

please try calling Mckeans Hospital in Chiangmai ( which I listed above) as does advertise an offer of full care for patients with acute illness's, in peaceful surroundings..

There is also a home care nursing agency in Chiangmai..( PP Nursing Care )They may well send someone to Udon, or perhaps you and your wife can relocate to Chiangmai..I would prefer a Medivac plane ride, rather than an ambulance ride from Udon to Chiangmai that why I gave you the BKK Medical Wings number..I do hope you can attain help so that your wife could be at home with care and familar surrounds..your journey is a hard one, almost as tough as hers, so be strong Bro

Having just lost my father to cancer, it is time of turmoil for both patient and family, and sometimes no amount of planning, good intentions and love, can get one much ahead..my father toward the end, when he knew he was stepping beyond the veil, that separates the living from the dead, he finally accepted that it was time to go, and rejected any further medications, rather than linger and let my mother see him at his worse state, and he pasted in his sleep...
