Powder Coating

Post by mickojak » January 18, 2017, 10:57 am

I've had no luck with my galvanised steel post so I was wondering,
Is there any Powder Coaters in Udon?

Mick what are you using the steel for?
I am currently getting quotes on a raised deck around the pool and front stairs plus handrails. All out of steel and painted black. I will check him and see if he powder coats or brush paints the steel. I didn't request powder coat.

Be careful with Powder Coating.
When I worked at Thai Copper refinery in 1997 all the cable trays were specified to be Powder Coated.
I went back in 2005 to finish the Project after the crash in 97 & all the trays which had been in direct sunlight on the Piperacks were a mess.
The powder coating peeled off & they had to be taken down blasted & painted with a special epoxy coating.

Hi, Barney,
Painted steel: Beware with this they will often, if not every time, 'not' wipe down the steel with thinner/quality solvent to remove oil, etc., before they paint. Correct: thinner/quality solvent, primer, paint, for best long lasting job.
Good luck,
Doc

Thanks Doc, good point.
I'll stress that if he gets the job.
First I'll see if he paints or powders.

Mick I have looked for true gal pipe but like you unsuccessful.

^Doubt very much if he will "power coat" look up the process, involves applying thermoplastic or a thermoset polymer then baking in a oven! Tends to be expensive.
Steel coatings have come a long way in recent years, the Thai way remains in the dark ages! red lead primer etc. for steel you need a good primer with a two part epoxy on top as a minimum, again not cheap - doubtless why a good "system" is not used here!
