Eye exam.

Post by the-monk » June 10, 2019, 8:37 pm

Eye Exam..

With age your eyesight will evolve, I have had this pair of eyeglasses for several years and I feel a change is required. I don t want a clinic that is just interested in making a sale, I need an ophthalmologist that will do a serious eye exam and provide a prescription, IF necessary, so that I can shop my frame and glasses. Preferably in Udon or KK. Thanks all.

Monk, I highly recommend Udon Optical. It's a Chinese-Thai family owned and operated business that's been around for years. Manit is the licensed and uni graduated optometrist, and he has the latest equipment and does a thorough examination. He speaks excellent English and he is very fair and will not rip you off. I have used him for 9 years and have referred many of my friends to him who have all been satisfied. Prices are very reasonable and he will show you your options and let you make an informed decision on what is best for you. His phone number is 042 223 068 and 042 340 224. No appointment is necessary. Directions: heading west on Phosri Road he is 50 meters before the 2nd circle and on the left side of Phosri. Street parking is usually available on either side of the road. Just tell him Patrick sent you.
Colossians 2:8-10...See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, which are based on human tradition and the spiritual forces of the world rather than on Christ. For in HIM dwells all the fullness of the GODHEAD bodily; and you are complete in HIM, who is the head of all principality and power.

Hi and I just had a visit to an Ophthalmologist, this week, to check my vision, primarily for the onset of any degeneration and or cataracts. I was particularly concerned about cataracts, as I was struggling with my short or reading vision, when at my computer, even with my reading glasses on. Having to slide my reading glasses a little bit down my nose, from time to time. Long vision with my other glasses was still fine for driving etc.

I should say I am short sighted and have had glasses to correct my short sighted vision for over 55 years. But I have only started wearing reading glasses in the past 4 years. I am now just turned 63.

Anyway the test for degeneration, cataracts, retinal detachment, diabetic eye disease etc., were fine and a slight strengthening of my reading glasses will correct it.

When specifically asking him about Cataracts, the Ophthalmologist said to me was, that everyone in their later years, is likely to and will develop some degree/form of Cataracts, but that while that long vision can be corrected with a strengthening of my glasses and while the Cataract development is not progressing at a noticeable fast rate, he would not recommend any Cataract surgery. He then advised me that my stage of Cataract, was still very early and at the same stage that it was 2 years ago (with no noticeable progression) from when he last tested me, hence no reason to contemplate Cataract surgery and he would not recommend it. Just have my eyes tested/checked every year. This test cost me USD 140 (TB 4,400). \:D/

My test was overseas (not in Thailand and he is a German Specialist), but when speaking with him, I indicated I would be moving to Thailand permanently, soon. He responded saying, just go to Bumrungrad Hospital Bangkok, if you ever need Cataract surgery or other Eye surgery, as they are one of the best in the World. So, I will have my regular yearly check up at Bumrungrad Hospital, from now one. I am guesing it will cost around TB 2700 for the eye test at Bumrungrad Hospital.

It pays to have the best checking your eyesight in your later years, as it is one of the body Functions that you cannot afford to lose, if you want quality of life in those later years.

I agree. An excellent optometrist. Have been going there for over 10 years. Once had a broken glass frame replaced with a new frame for free. The only negative is that they don't have the equipment to test for glaucoma. Have to go to a hospital for that.

Go where you will but Udon has some great eye doctors. I was referred to the Queen's Hospital in Khon Kaen and my cataract surgery was performed by the head instructor of the school eye dept. The hospital in BKK is no doubt good but there are other more convenient and less expensive choices.

Don't believe everything you are told I had a badly infected elbow (spider bite in Africa) 5 operations later and 3 months inpatient stay was advised to amputate my arm from elbow down total cost at Bunrungrad was 5.5 million baht. Flew back to Aberdeen to private hospital and 1 operation later was fully recovered total cost 2000 pounds

Hi dunroaming

I have been to Bumrungrad once before, some 12 years back, to their eye Clinic in an emergency situation, having stepped off a plane in Bangkok with two badly infected eyes, due to a bug I caught in Bali, from the water and that my Contact lens had scratched the Cornea surface of my left eye, allowing that bug to get inside the eye. That Thai Doctor, who treated me that night, saved the sight in my left eye, buy recognizing the problem and its potential, as buy that time the Vitreous body had become infected. I am truly grateful for what he did over the next 4 days.

A week later, back in Australia, with a follow up at the Ophthalmologist Specialist in Melbourne, with him telling me that I was very very lucky to be able to still see out of my left eye and that I should be more than grateful to that Thai Doctor next time I saw him. So my experience at least with my eyesight treatment at Bumrungrad, has been a very favorable one with a happy outcome.
