Yes,same here yesterday at Tesco Lotus Extra.
Fortunately had the wife with me so was able to pay the bill useing her id but mine not acceptable.
I,ve been paying myself for years so seems another rule just brought in for the sake of it.
After all,you are paying money in not taking out.

We have to think outside these perpetual and popular "They don't like us" and "Another nail in the coffin" opinions on why they have initiated the need for positive identification of the utility account holder when the payment is being made by a third party. Note that Thai people need to show their national ID even if it is their own account they are paying or otherwise and it's not just another hoop for the grumpy farangs.

Maybe there's a huge, nationwide scam where dodgy foreign entities are buying loads of water and electricity from unverified proxy Thai utility accounts and shipping the water and electricity out of the country in huge waterproof, insulated bags stuffed inside sea containers and not paying Customs duty? Since the PEA and MWA are state-owned entities, I imagine that a lot of hands have been identified as having been inside those huge cookie jars by the junta-masquerading-as-a-government's pretty impressive and increasingly effective smack down on endemic corruption.

That's my best reasoning at 3 A.M. (here) after only 1 cup of coffee but I welcome other irrational and illogical reasons for the equally irrational and illogical ID requests as long as it doesn't recycle the myths of xenophobia or 'racist' BS on behalf of our hosts.

I,m certainly not viewing it as another nail in the coffin but just wondering as to the reasoning behind it.
Sometimes I have to pay cash into a bank branch to someone where I dont hold an account.(SCB,Krung Thai,GSB as exampes).
I just roll up with the cash, fill out a form and also pay 20 baht convenience fee.....but nobody asks me for an id.I,m just wondering where/why this differs from paying cash at Tesco,s.
Just when I thought our chance had passed, you go and save the best for last.

In the past few years, many times i have read that the Thai Government wanted to create Big Data Banks, data that can be used for a multitude of purposes. They begin with Government agencies and large corporations but they wish to
entend this data gathering to the corner stores by pushing Digital payments, transfers etc... Any transaction would be stored in their BIG DATA.... Just think of Facebook, Google, etc.... Then you have to ask yourself < How this data stream will be used, handled, stored, or even misappropriated ??>>.... Is this your BIG BROTHER ??

which is why the Brits STILL refuse to carry ID cards in UK.

Note- If you dont put the info there Huawei cant steal it in the same way that i ya dont get yourself pictured and recorded talking to incriminating people it cant get used against you later

Perhaps Tesco is just following the law.
