Maybe he needs the 60 days official extension to prepare his funds for switching to an annual extension of stay in-country, instead of having to do a border run in these uncertain times.
Ok that makes sense, otherwise why spend the cash, when they might extend this amnesty again. Who knows??

Now I have 60 day extension which takes me into August
Can do a marriage O at IO or if borders reopen and not a drama can get my normal O visa in Laos or Vietnam
Now i dont see the borders being an easy run anytime soon

You can not get a new KR2/KR22 if you are divorced, so yes it does prove that you are still married.

You do not qualify for an Non-O visa at immigration (by normal rules, COVID may have relaxed these)

Your only option in Thailand is a 1 year extension if you have the 400k in the bank now or if you can get an embassy letter proving 40k per month income (assuming you are not British, American or Australian)

Your other hope is that you can exit Thailand and return from Laos or Vietnam mid August

It should not be required for a 60 day extension but if you have been told to get it then yes she must.
It takes a few minutes (if the amphur is not busy) and costs about 20 baht.

I don’t see where I was wrong see bold text.

You have no visa. You have permission to stay. They are different and have Different rules.
You seem to have already got an unusual extension.

I only talk about the legitimate ways to deal with immigration, while I may know about brown envelopes I never get involved.

I had my orginal one 9 years old no must have new one valid for 7 days with IO
Amphur was not super busy as got new yellow book in least than 15 mins cue 6
but the cue for kor 2 was only 4 in front of me took best part of 2 hours

No I have a visa which was re enter before March 17
When i did it gave me 90 days on that visa which yesterday I extended that visa to 60 days
If I had not done this and just waited till July 31st I would have no valid visa
and I would have to leave the country if they open the borders
That not being a problem apart from where to go and what rules I have to use for at least 2 countries
So now I have visa which to apply for the extensions based on marrage or retirement in August

Unless it was a multi entry visa. It was finished the day you entered so no visa.

A visa doesn’t allow you to stay in Thailand. A visa is never extended, the visa suggests to the admitting IO the permission to stay they give you, that permission can be extended (as you have done)

So as I said no visa but a permission to stay from a visa entry.

It is being suggested that immigration will treat anyone who’s permission to stay expired after March 26 as if that permission to stay expires on the day the amnesty finishes or shortly after, this will allow the normal kinds of extensions from the end of the amnesty.

The effect of this policy, if it is the one that immigration will follow, is that the immigration offices are going to be very very crowded and extensions will take longer to process.

The exact terms used are important not just semantics.

Stop getting your knickers in a knot
Yes it was multiple re entry visa
I got 90 days in march now have 60 days extension of said visa
Can you tell me with 100% certainty that IO will allow expired visa become a yearly extension come 1st of Aug
My guess is you cant because even IO does not know what they will be doing come 1st of Aug
But I know what I am doing to stay in Thailand for the next year

As I said A visa is never/can never, be extended. So no you do not have an extension of that visa.

You got a 90 day permission to stay in March which you extended. It is not a visa

A visa never becomes a yearly extension. You are confusing the visa with the permission to stay they are not the same, the permission to stay can go beyond the life of the visa.

The visa allows you to enter Thailand, it doesn’t let you stay, once you have entered it makes no difference if the visa expires.
The permission to stay allows you to stay in Thailand

However you have just got a 60 day extension of your permission to stay that will go into Aug. So I am 100% certain that you can extend that into an annual extension (if you have had 400,000 on deposit in an account in your name only for at least 60 days on the date you apply [some IOs make the alternative 40,000 monthly income difficult]) and the rest of the paperwork.

So waiting until the 1st of august to extend is not recommended if you have the money seasoned before that, because immigration is probably going to be busy.

I can be sure that the IOs will issue the extension as they are currently doing exactly that.

I have no idea if any borders will be open On Aug 1st & even if they are open I have no information about who will be allowed to cross and what conditions will apply.

If the visa expires I am pretty sure you cant get an extension
So by your misguided thoughts I should do nothing till July 31
Luckly I did what i think was right
Now on the IO guide No2 is Photo copies of passport complete with copy pages that have anything to do with the current visa, re-entry visas and arrival stamps current TM 6 slip

You may notice not expired visa

The one thing you got right is the 60 day is a extension of stay,
the 60 days are counted from the end date of the 90 day border stamp
not the day the extension was given
so thanks for making me look and check the date

With all due respect STWW.
As I said A visa is never/can never, be extended.
I think you are confusing the issue some what! I have been in Thailand since 2001 on one form of Non Immigration VISA or another including "B" with work permit.

My last was a 12 Month multiple entry Non "O" Immigration "VISA" issued out of Brisbane in 2011. I have been extending that "VISA" ever since. Through any sort of language 'permission to stay' is an extension as such the application form, TM7, calls it an Extension!

I got my first 1yr extension of stay on Non O marriage visa on Wed, (pending acceptance)

All went fairly smooth except that they wanted the family witness, (A thai national with ID and House book,
that knows me etc), to be present at the immigration office?
This was a surprise to me as I thought they only had to be present at our home when Immi come visit.

Couldn't do it that day, as the person was not available.
They accepted someone else the next day with proviso of new update bank book and letter.

Waiting on visit then go back next month for final acceptance.
Fingers crossed
